@Aileron's idea,
The only way it could work is if each PLAYER attacking the boss is treated separately by the boss. So each player can only die say 5 times. Once a player dies 5 times any add or boss the player dealt damage to becomes immune to the player and the player loses lock and damage dealt (in the same way you do when you die) until the boss/add is killed or reset. Ofcourse logging out or leaving the area should not reset your death count.
In addition, if possible, the boss should switch aggro to the players that havent reached their 5 death count yet, so that other players cant be used as sacrifice to negate damage to the rest. That way kill count can start straight away and you can still compete for the boss with less possibility of exploits.
The biggest issue i have is rival clans griefing you on the boss by dragging adds or spam calming the tank and killing your players to increase your death count. There would have to be less adds that do AOE attacks and Calm must be restricted to Raid group members only so that it cant be used by someone outside of raid group on players in the group.
