It is a bit of a pain if you have great gear but if you are at that lvl then I am guessing you are in a good clan who do lots of boss kills. Shouldn't be too difficult to get hold of the necro/mord/hrung/200 gear that makes the difference. I use fire and am pretty pleased with dmg and speed. Up to you but good luck

I can do two firebolts in the time i can do one ice shards.
my fire bolt does more damage than half my ice shards so that would be more dps.
seems like common sense to me.
Ice is burst damage, ice is better for short fights, fire for long fights.

hmm. I know that ice does higher dmg but as has been said (again and again) the cooldown time for ice sucks. I find that fire is pretty good for short and long fights. As always, it is up to you and at high levels a lot depends on your gear like the reduce cooldown time jewelry. good luck

a lot also depends on gear that adds damage (direct damage to skills, focus, fire/ice magic). dmg boosting gear can outweigh reduction gear in the right hands.

fire is better for long and short fight because it is better dps. dps is all that matters when it comes down to it.

No. Heres an example of where burst damage wins.

Say an enemy takes 3 fire hits to kill, and 2 ice hits to kill. A ice shard ice blast attack would kill the enemy, but for fire it would be firebolt firestorm wait firebolt. So ice wins short term dps(including short boss fights/leveling)

fire hits come faster so they have more dps. and the only mob you will be able to kill with two hits would be a leveling mob. where the goal is not to kill one but to kill as many as possible as fast as possible. that all comes down to dps which a fire mage has more of.

in your example a ice mage would be waiting on cool downs while a fire mage is already killing another mob

if you can not kill your mob in two hits then you are waiting on cooldowns while the fire mage is still spamming skills.
