Im a dex ranger and the defense is an extra bonus. I can actually stand by an even lvl 3star and just heal myself and dodge.

I wuodnt waste my dps ammy slot on a defense skill, however.

Im a ranger also, a clan mate has just told me you need to be stood upon a mob to use, making it a little useless on dl/edl unless im leveling. Ive got frostgiant atm as im going for an allround build to be able to be good at all, master of non. Atm my jewellery is:

Frostgiant 150 ammy
Godly something or other charm (50 elemental, 500 ice evade and 500 phys evade)
Grand riftskull
Dex brace from last event
2x 200 valour rings
+9 longshot ring
200 lux haste ring

i cant say im str or dex bc all the bonuses make my stats equal 800+ so im the hated hybrid, but imo str is only good to a point and dex is also if ur looking at numbers. I dont need the defence 2bh as im sitting on 2k+ and my autos arw hitting between 700 and 1200 depending on the mob level my level.

both ammys offer the 1000 hp which entices me as its kinda equivilant to the 200 vit from the frostgiant, im a little nervous about chucking away 120 armour points though! ik people say were ranged but who bolases on a lix really?

Should replace charm asp, with a good sunfire one, spider one, or garanak set. You should also look for hrung braces/rings with damage, theyll help too. And the frostgiant ammy is mainly helpful for tanks, as dps you should use a damage ammy.
Also about defense, stay away from it. Defense is awful(even moreso at that level because enemies have alot of attack), health is better but you shouldnt look for either in your gear at that level. Look for damage, itll serve you better.

Its the whole offense vs defense debate on mmos, i spent alot of time debating this. Offense helps you kill faster, making the fight shorter, and you generally take less damage in a shorter fight. Defense(not the stat) makes a fight take longer(because of less damage done) making you take more damage because you fought longer. Hence why im a full focus ice mage myself. But defense(the stat) is a gamble(doesnt work always or often) making health better because its a sure thing, but for reasons explained above offense is best. And when leveling if you kill faster and get hurt less you can use restos/lixs and not have problems with low hp, while with higher defense/hp youll be slower at killing, taking more damage, and making restos less effective. Also i have had 800 defense skill brace before, wasnt good.

Im supporting the defence stat not the ammy btw for ammys is Definatly suggest pierce one over defence one

When ganarak was roaming lirs, we didnt habe the power to kill, so thats not an option really. Its the newest server available to celtic heroes im on. Ive got a 130 spidy charm with 60 dex, +6 to each steady and longshot but im trying to get some evades in also. Only reason why i have that charm 2bh. I see the point faster kills, less dmg also. Ive played ranger to 201, rogue to 106 and druid to 106 and ranger is by far the hardest class to put stats into. Last event i tried 3 of the ammys and decided for the actual worth the frostgiant helped more, but now im full dl im after a little more 2bh. theres too many opinions about ranger builds and 2bh im happy with my actual build atm, im top 3 on droid and my survivability, if i had a shield and taunt could probably tank lmao, and my dps if on a haste can sometimes outdo a rogue. im really bugged by the fact its an ammy with a cqc attk or def. Im leaning towards the pierce ammy as its good for leveling but i could just keep frostroot and level that bit slower. Haha, all rangers will know what im talking about. Dilemmas....

Or you can have good defense, good offense, and not use a ton of restos. I know from your posts that your mage was full focus, had very little hp, no eshield, practically 1 unfathomable killed all mobs, and hardly ever died. Essentially you defied the odds and did not go through the same issues other mages and classes go through.

However, even a ranger with a very high dmg stat (I have 2500 but if I buy my 180 gear, it will be a lot higher) is still going to get attacked by mobs unless they bolas, shoot, bolas some more, run a but back, shoot some more, and repeat.

All this is doing is making the fight longer. You can have high def without sacrificing much offense, keeping you alive better without using a bunch of restos. Having played with high defense and low defense, there isn't much of a loss of overall xp but is cheaper.
