my post seems to have vanished. i will try again.

The main issue i have with this thread is the structure - you have pre-made the assumption we have to change by presenting us with 2 choices, both of which are different from what we currently do. What about option 1: keep it as it is now.

right now, casters get books, melee get spears, and everyone gets a shot at the helms. I see no need to try to over-optimize drops. if a mage gets a good tank helm once in a while, then whoopee - big $$ score. I think that is fine. After all, what happens if a dps warrior gets a tank helm - the next logical progression is to say only tanks get the best tank helms (and i have seen suggestions like this in the past), or only very active tanks get the helms (why waste on someone who doesn't play often?). Why should a dps helm be wasted on me, there are plenty of other players (rogues and rangers) which far higher dps - who optimize for dps. Heck, many of them play a lot more than i do are are far more active.

so, while i don't mind discussing changes, and actually encourage it - i do like to caution about getting too specific with too many drops. I like that we have some modest level of optimization (getting things generally to the right class) without going overboard. There is still room to make a great profit once in a while with a lucky roll.

basically our rules, across bosses, is:
1. if it is class restricted or has class specific skill (like fire magic or cunning) - then diced to class
2. if the drop is clearly 'category' optimized (melee vs. caster) - then be dice by category. spears vs. books are a great example.
3. for other drops, even if they might lean toward a category, we do general dicing.

we tend to have the most contention for items that are between #2 and #3 - like garanak sets or certain mordy helms. These items, certainly as sets, tend to favor a category - but they are so good that someone outside the category might find them quite helpful too (i like some of the 'caster' or 'warrior' garanak rings, because of the dex). I feel that we should leave these items for everyone to dice. It can lead to some interesting character configurations and allows for a some experiments in play. and if the only benefit is the occasional profit, so be it.

I'm not from Lugh but wouldn't it be easier to just let everyone roll on mordris helms and let them trade with each other later? You'll never have a fair system if you let casters only roll on 3 helm types and other classes can roll on 4.
This is what we have done in the past and it worked well. Lately, we have a few individuals wanting to micromanage drops. This happens occasionally on Lugh but doesn't last. Since multiple clans and classes have to work together on our server, unfair rules tend to collapse when those getting screwed refuse to participate.

Currently, a few DPS players have developed an overinflated sense of their contribution to boss fights. This leads to a sense of entitlement for the best drops and unfair rules emerge. You can’t kill end game bosses without casters.

The solution to this problem is to use casters from one clan who will participate in an unfair system. Of course, this will be the first step in developing a dominate clan on Lugh. Said “dominant clan” develops an overinflated sense of importance and tries to run the server. This clan implodes because our server values cooperation and fairness.

Rinse. Lather. Repeat.

Edit: The argument is we have to sacrifice fairness to kill end game bosses and our fair approach is “holding the server back”. In reality, the thing that interferes with progress is the repeated cycle I described above.

Second Edit: My post isn't intended to deride servers with dominant clans. If your players like this approach, power to you. Play as you like.
well said +1. there are a few arrogant players nowadays who want to boss others around. some tend to try to change the rules or break the rules to benefit themselves. its pretty messed up really. keep the dicing as it is. if a caster wants a damage helmet so be it. No single class should be shafted on the helms.

This was not a vote. It was a discussion on a future vote, its not valid. It's even less valid because the op was changed to include damage helms to melees on option 2 AFTER alot of people already voted 2

Since when does micromanaging everything help? Isn't that the same thing that annoyed our clan, when people tried to dictate how we played within the rules? Vehemently against this.

Any vote on forums will not be included as this is not the forum that won the vote.
The forums were said to be the place to vote for a long time, and that it was the only place it would be valid. The vote to decide if the forums should be used wasnt done on the forums(the only allowed voting spot) so wechat is not counted technically. It is also pretty much treason trying to undermine the voting system.
