Wards?!

#1
Just lvling my druid atm with goal of just being full support. Has anyone done any extensive testing with wards and would like to share?! Just curious about
-which wards to invest in
-minimum points to make a ward useful
And anything else you know of about wards being useful

Thank you.

The first thing to know about wards is what wards there are.

Currently, there are 6 wards, one for each primary damage type. This amounts to six wards: Fire, Ice, Magic, Pierce, Slash, and Crush.

Despite there being six possible wards, only three are ever used (with rare exceptions): the elemental ones. This is due to the beauty of Sheild of Bark, which is essentially three wards in one, and since there is so much bark-adding gear availible and not so much ward-adding gear, Bark is preferred 100% of the time.

But, with these remaining three wards, which are the useful ones?

At least on my server, wards are never a practically used skill, for during leveling they are useless considering the range of Attack types from mobs. However, for major bosses such as Mordris, Necromancer, and the Event bosses, the elemental wards have their use.. Although it is usually more for security than as a vital role, and alt druids who log on only for these bosses usually are the ones with wards, as it is a waste of 40 points to use a skill that will only be used sometimes, not always. You can always use Strike, Bark, Natures Touch, Nature's Breath, Embrace, Vines, and other skills in almost any situation, however if you have 1-2 wards at least one of them will be seldom used. Hence, to save alteration books, the alt druids usually have wards as they are not actively leveling and wouldn't be burdened by the skills.

All in all, wards aren't too great, and as said before are more for security during a boss than an essential part. If you have 4+ druids dedicated to a boss, you quickly run out of useful skills to assign them, so wards come into play.

Wards have their use for elementally-specific bosses, but I would keep them out of your everyday build.

Hopefully this helps!

Having them is nice. With the event dragons, ward of fire negates the debug the dragon uses. Level 1 or level 50.

Besides that, I use mine as spam for ability training.

When training other abilities on my rogue main, duel logging, I max bark bless and mainly ward of magic.
With this I can handle the spams of rockbelly and his minions or glider through the tox. Boggans without losing very much health.

ward of magic is a must for 215 edl boss. we have to all have magic ward on us or the area affect will keep killing us.

it makes a huge difference when killing event to have a maxed fire ward.

Rather use magic ward for 215 but have the ward wasted when not doing 215 or use sanctuary which is useful on other things also but less good at 215?

This would depend on how often you kill the 215 boss. For example, when we do hrung I have to change my skill set but we typically only kill him once or twice a week so it's worth it for me to reskill. If hrung were a daily killer then I would prob keep a closer skill set needed to kill hrung than burn through so many red books.

So a lot depends on if you feel the cost of red books is worth it and if it hampers your leveling abilities.

I've had sanctuary at max (50 pts) and found it to be a worthless skill to invest points in for the way the skill is now
