I think both are good, matter of playstyle, I prefer speed thus I like fire.

I believe it is a personal choice. Having been a mage for a few years and using both fire and ice, I prefer ice.
I have never had an issue soloing, yes cool downs for ice is slower. I use max shard, blast and some points in fire bolt. Generally speaking, I can have continuous firing...I tend to start with shards...bolt...blast...bolt and back to shards; works well for me. LOL what hurts are the freaking evades.
In groups there really shouldn't be an issue, you are all working towards a common goal on bringing the mob/boss down. I have never really cared if I could out dps another mage (or any other toon) and I really don't care who gets credit for the kill...to me it seems a bit silly.

why do good ice mages get the kill on ph such as stonecrusher and rockhide, as well as other 5* dl bosses, Comrak , ow bosses, etc. and even sometimes 6* bosses ? ice can be superior in short fights as opposed to longer fights. what furyion is talking about has a lot of truth to it, and he is living proof that ice can beat fire in short fights. he is pure damage and was able to ice blast 11.7k (on dummy) before the Garanak event. this was high damage at the time and allowed him to get these quick kills. ice too can be deadly in the right hands. although, ice is the path less traveled.

getting the kill is not about doing the most damage per second it is about doing the most burst damage. that is why ice mages are getting the kill. not because they are doing more damage per second.

armo is level 210 while furyion is only 190. armo has way more experience leveling a mage so he is living proof that fire mages do more damage per second at high levels.
what furyion is saying has no truth to it.
an 11k hit is still less damage per second when fire mages hits come twice as fast and do more than half an ice mages hit. just do the math.
