At high levels maybe not but until then from 1-150 it's usable for when not lixing, and when you are Lixing it's worth it to spend an extra 1k per lix for an energy lix anyway which decreases all those problems

You can duo a druid and mage together, mage can use sacrifice, druid counters this with heals and dps, mage can put spare points into magic lure to boost the druids dps. This is easy and cheap levelling, it worked for me when i did it with a friend up till 115 or so with just an xp lix, i see no reason why it shouldnt continue working from there as his sac wasnt maxed and he wasnt even dropping it that often. At 120+ energy costs really start to pack on at 120 with the skill point increase, druid may need to use an energy lix because the costs are high and mage will need the sac for himself, but at this point you will be using an exp lix if you werent already if you want to remain sane so an extra 500-1k gold spent on an energy lix wont hurt. This is also an important time to start investing in sigils if you intend to do bosses or farming, it only takes a couple skill casts to go from 5k+ energy to none, if you're just focus on levelling however, than this can wait

^At lvl 120 it was a bit tougher to keep up without eng elix, but its still very possible (was lvl 23 for me at lvl 120, but lvl 27 before), its just that it makes the druid heal u too often.

Starting off at low levels with no gear I would recommend maxing fire cloak. It kills slower but is better for managing energy.

I didn't find fire cloak all that useful. I got better results with maxed fire bolt. Really depends on play style though.
