You are right, Indira, it is a quandry. And it is compounded by the fact that it is near impossible to get the Warding ability in the first place.
If that quest were easier to obtain, the entire problem would be lessened. Warding SHOULD have been one of the easy quests (like collecting clovers or something) because then Warding would increase as we trudge back through Shale and fight the easy Shale Mages. If that were the case, by the time we got back to Stone to fight Druids, we would be able to solo them effectively. As it stands, Stonevale Druids are blasting me with Lightneing, Storm's Touch, and healing themselves, while I have to use most of my energy just to keep myself healed. If I had Warding, however, I would be able to avoid some of those attacks.
The theory of the new abilities and their progession was sound, I think, and I really appreciate their inclusion in the game. The way in which they were introduced, however, was flawed. I haven't levelled since the update because I have been stuck on the Warding quest. Days and Days of killing 4 stars in Shale and not one - single - stone has dropped on me. I have a pack of Officer Pins, Mac Roth Plates, and Connacht Goblets... but no Cerridwin (sp) stones.
I understand there is a learning curve (both as a player and as a character), but some of this feels downright masochistic. I used to enjoy playing for a couple hours each night, making some money, getting some exp., taking down a boss or two with the clan, and the thrill of the fight. Now I play for two hours, am frustrated at having accomplished nothing (save for a few gold), annoyed with the swarming of Defectors, and wonder why I just put myself through the torture. I'm about ready to throw the iPod itself into the trash.
