Energy shield

#1
This spell went from zero to hero overnight! It was the most useless mage skill, now it is the most useful.

Basically energy shield takes a set amount of your energy and turns it into a shield that absorbs that much damage. For me at lvl 47 it absorbs 638 damage and costs 610 energy. It lasts 90 seconds, long enough to cast 8 firebolts about.

Not only that but any attacks that your enemy does to you will not interrupt any of your spells! So you can recast lure's, heals, and buffs without worry that they will be interrupted!

Even with only 55 pts in health I can tank as well as any warrior my level.

This spell is amazing.

See my Fireshield mage build on the general mage build post.

Why play a class where skills cost more than other classes for same damage?
Why play a class with no auto attack?
Why play a class with 1/3 the armor?
Why play a caster?

The only thing I didn't like about it was long recast time as old version would allow you to use all your mana up on a mob so I thought a faster recast would be better I was of the opinion if you have the mana then let them cast it If you use all your mana up then it's your own fault you can't fight

Part if the idea was likely to help PvP so that players could break it. However, if you have the patience, I find if you cast it, wait about half the cooldown (more if you thInk it'll break in less than 30 seconds) then attack. I find you generally don't have enough energy to cast it more than twice anyway.

Currently I'm at 74 with my mage and I haven't been having much trouble with the 80-82 eyes in otherworld. 3* being the max I can solo (barely), with energy shield at 17/20.

Nice I'm level 61 right now and have 19/20 eshield, 20/20 Firebolt and lure of fire. Am I well set to go to otherworld when I'm your level you think? Or do I need shards for some reason?

You won't be a good tank with energy shield because no one can heal energy and you will run out of it quite fast, if you tank a hard boss, he will break your shield and you won't be able to cast it again because the cooldown time is too long
It's still a good skill and it helps us to win every pvp fights ;)

I don't tank bosses at the moment, so the low HP hasn't been a problem. Right now, my primary concern is leveling, so a lot of my build revolves around that.

I like the new energy shield better than the old one because you still have energy left after it breaks. The old one made you useless once the shield broke.
I do think the cool down is way to long.
Also I am confused at how ice ability level works into the skill. It used to be skill levels determined the ratio of energy to hp. Now skill levels determine the HP strength of the shield. But how does ability work in?
It would be nice if the skill took less energy.
Consider all that energy shield does:
  • If buffed before a fight it effectively increases your max hit points (kind of like a hitpoint well)
During a fight it converts energy to HP (basically a heal)
    it provides interruptions protection
OK a great skill but lets compare it to other skills
  • Bandage wounds with 550 First Aid I get 142 points of heal for 12 energy so about 10 to one.
Druids have about a 6 to one HP to Energy ratio
Rangers light heal is something like 5 to one
but our is one to one?
Ok we do a few more things but how about 2 to 1

Yeah energy shield is awesome, but druids still stand a chance of surviving. They could use natures embrace, ward of magic, ice and fire.
Then they use abuncance and shield of bark. Then they use wind so the mage melee would miss a lot of times.
Usually, i wait until the shield breaks up and then attack. Im using a druid atm. but a lvl 60 friend soloed kiara with energy shield and he won :)
Not playing celtic heroes anymore
