The pet section is kinda unclear. Does this mean our birds will be equipable in said slot? Because I really like my crow, and would like to use it. Otherwise it'll be useless :/

Yeah but part of an already existing element in game.

you should be focusing almost all of your efforts on instances. you know.. so that there is something TO DO.

Start working on an Auction House.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the crow you have will stay the same, and that they are developing all new pets. I say this because the pumpkin and snowman hats from 2011 didn't get changed to fashion slots when fashion came out. I know that was a very long time ago, but there is a precedent for leaving existing items the same and moving on to all new ones.
