We all know there are the users who come to the Forums to voice their opinions about the game. These users can get into scraps with each other and at times end up off topic, but they DO add insights and suggestions to the game most of the time. Some Forum goers decide to make an account simply to be able to view topics with ease. These people may choose not to comment but instead keep their opinions to themselves.
Even I'm guilty of straying off topic and into insults, and we've all been there, but for most of us that isn't what we joined the forums for. We joined to provide feedback or to keep up with our game.

And then we have the ever present species of Trolls. These people's prime purpose is to disrupt topics, show their "superiority" or otherwise show the entire community how much of an absolute fool they are.

These people only have accounts in order to try to one up other users, to bash on them, or to just get under people's skin. Very rarely do they contribute anything worthwhile to the community and would be better off gone. In fact, one of them will probably read this and post a snide comment, all the while snickering behind their screen thinking that they're something great. You know who they are, and they know they lead a sad sad little life.

So as a question to OTM-

If a user is shown to not contribute anything to the community and instead just insult, degrade, or otherwise aim to irritate other users, would it be possible to simply BAN the users IP Address?

These people don't need to be shown mercy. If they abuse their abilities to post then they should have them taken away for good. If a person joins the forums with the mindset to just screw with things then they should be stopped immediately and kept from ever doing it again. If you ban or delete their account then they may just turn around and create a new one. Banning their IP from accessing the website is the true root of the issue and should be dealt with.

I understand that this may be an issue OTM may not want to deal with due to the chance of losing business opportunities (by making the trolls mad and having then quit). But if you lose one customer over potential many more who could leave due to abuse or sheer frustration then what does it matter? Someone with a bad kind of attitude does not belong on the forums.

As lonf as there is internet there will be trolls. This isn't trying to put a stop to them, but this would help out in the future.

Or hey, you could always tap the foe button so you don't see their posts! But from what I can tell that works just as well as the Block button in game...Us players are quite stubborn

If Troll-hood was voted on by the community we would all get lots of votes I suspect.

But of course as long as we are Grateful, so freakin' Grateful, we should all be safe.

While the true trolls are a problem(note some of the commenters), I don't think banning is a viable option. The major issue with it is it would be an opinion. Someone would have to be responsible to decide who's banned or not, which could cause issues down the road. I'm a firm beliver in set rules, as opinions only cause problems. If you can find a way to make rules set in stone I'm all for it, otherwise I can't support it.

For now, you can either ignore the trolls, or combat them. Both options have their issues though.

Ignoring them will chance other people siding with/believing said trolls which short term wrecks the topic(people may bandwagon on the wrong answer due to numbers, and refuse to belive you), and long term it hurts the community(wrong info, more useless topics, etc)

Fighting them will derail the topic, but it has a chance to stop or at least slow them down. Usually it's best not to fight them, but there's a time and place for everything.

Here's some things trolls will try on people.

1. Calling someone dumb for spelling wrong(who cares it's a forum, we don't need to be perfect)

2. Using things people said completely out of context to try to make themselves look good(there's one of those here)

3. Bashing over pointless issues

There's more but those are the ones I most encountered.

For the TL:DR people, troll banning would only be ok if the rules were set in stone, otherwise it would be an opinion who's a troll or not, and that would lead to issues.

Be careful there, you may be the first to be banned for constantly insulting me. I already filed numerous complaints against u for cyber bullying, discrimination and harassment. Not smart to be digging your own grave.
