Re: Account Shared Banning!

I never understood the account sharing policy.

Hundreds of people across all the servers and end game clans do it every day, and there are never any consequences. On the other hand there are people who do it and get reported by somebody who doesn't like them, as the case stated in op, and they get banned straight away. This selective banning really isn't acceptable. You can't ban somebody simply over the basis of them being reported over others, who commit the exact same acts, but go unreported and unpunished.

The reasoning behind the no account sharing rule is so OTM does not receive an influx of support tickets having to deal with it. What I don't get is, if this is the reasoning, why not just leave it as discouraged? If people want to share their toons, who cares, let them. But if they get scammed it's their own problem and their own fault. OTM should have no part to play in account sharing, be it banning people for doing it or helping people who were scammed. Warn people of the dangers of doing it and that's all, stay out of whatever people choose to do after that.

If you have clan members who share their toons in secret and don't tell anyone in the clan that it isn't them playing, they really aren't good clan members. Does this actually happen? I have never heard of or seen any case where somebody other than the original owner playing an account would go unnoticed for more than a day.

I 100% agree. It's my damn account... why can't I do whatever I want with it? Ok.. I understand selling might be bad.. but if I want to share my account with a friend it should be up to ME. I should be able to share with whoever I want...

I play on Taranis and the closest thing I can compare it too is Mos Eisly spaceport in Star Wars where Obi Wan says "-You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious." In a gaming environment such as this there is no possible way I'd ever share my account with anyone. I don't care who they are. It's not worth the risk. I've spent far too many hours and spent far too much money getting my toons where they are. Anyone who even probes for info about my account finds themselves on the infamous blocked list.

This is a rule that I have tried to explain to players a number of times now.
This rule is in place to protect players as well as to aid the support team in dealing with any account issues that may arise.
This rule is enforced in many MMO's not just Celtic Heroes - however I shall try and explain below the reasons as to why I believe this rule of account sharing/trading/gifting/buying/selling - to be so important.

-First off - it is against ALL terms of service to share ANY account information with ANYONE else. This includes people who you know both online or offline. Your relationship with the person who you've given the account to does NOT matter to the support team. What does matter is the fact that the security of your account has now been breeched and now the support team has to fix any issues that come as a consequence of this action. This security breech can be pretty bad espically if you have the same username or password on other websites out there.

To better protect yourself against this type of behaviour please NEVER share your password. Remember that OTM will never ask for a players password - even we do not have access to what your password is - which is why we have to give a new one when people ask for resets. This is again done for the players security above all.
Never use the same password and username combination for multiple websites etc. This will make it harder for anyone to 'hack' into other accounts that you may be the owner of - if your information was indeed shared.
IF you have shared your username - use a very secure password. We cannot change usernames of accounts due to the way in which accounts have been saved within the database.

PLEASE NOTE - ANY ITEMS/GOLD LOST VIA THE SHARING OF PERSONAL DETAILS WILL NOT BE RETURNED AND YOU MAY LOSE ACCESS TO SUPPORT.

-Next - the MAJORITY of players actually do not like account sharing/trading.
It creates the feeling of mistrust within the community, makes players unsure of just whom is playing on the account in question and helps to AID in the ability to scam.
A user for example can purchase an account - pretend to still be the old trusted player - and use that trust to gain items/gold off other unsuspecting players.
Players and OTM should at all time be able to determine just whom is playing what account - this helps to establish relationships on both sides. Players learn who they can trust and develop friendships ect while the staff of OTM learn more about the players who get in touch with them a few times and therefore is able to help them a lot easier at times - espically with more simple requests as we learned about your account at an earlier time ect.
It is an advantage to BOTH the player and OTM to know WHO is behind the character that they are currently interacting with.

-Trade/Mail history details are very confusing within shared accounts.
People request information about old trades/mail that has nothing to do with them - in order to try and track down some rare item that the account they bought once had and then unrest is then created as they try and track the item down. This can either be via harassing other players for information on who they traded the item to etc or by spamming the support team with requests to find the items.
Players should be aware that all trades are final. We can tell you to whom YOU traded the item to etc but not where the item has gone after this. Mail's can sometimes contain personal information that perhaps the old player did not want others to know. There is nothing that support can do in order to protect players once they have shared their account information.

-Scamming
Yes I mentioned this before but it does require two points. This one is about being 'scammed' when your buying an account. You may not be receiving the account that you believed you were and if the player who 'sold' you the account does not uphold their promise in changing the registered email then they can easily receive the account back. Please also be aware that the ORIGINAL account owner is also the ONLY person who can receive an account via appeals. This is because they are the creator of the account and OTM do try to give people a second chance when it is possible - however if a sold account is recovered but then sold/shared/traded once again - then the account will be locked down for good. We are doing this to PROTECT players not to punish them. If you do not follow our terms of service and still purchase an account then this is done so at your own risk and OTM are not responsible for ANY losses that are occurred as a result.

PLEASE NOTE - ANY EVIDENCE OF REAL OFFLINE MONEY BEING TRANSFERRED FOR ITEMS OR ACCOUNT WILL RESULT IN THAT ACCOUNT BEING LOCKED DOWN WITH NO CHANCE OF AN APPEAL. THE SELLING OF ACCOUNTS/ITEMS IS AGAINST THE TERMS OF SERVICE OF BOTH OTM AND APPLE AND ACCOUNTS FOUND TO BE ENGAGING IN THIS BEHAVIOR CANNOT BE RECOVERED.

Basically we are attempting to protect you. By knowing who is playing an account - both OTM and players will know how to interact with that account. Players will also feel secure in whom they are lending items/gold to as they'll know that the person behind that character is the person they've been friends with/been in a clan with for however long they've known them. We are trying to help all players. No account is EVER banned without the evidence to back up said ban and all bans will be sent an email that explains the reason as to why they have been disabled. You are then welcomed to contact the appeals team but please be aware that depending on the work load and the complexity of some appeals - the process of recovering an account can be quite lengthy at times. If you wish to help speed up the appeals process then please make sure to have as much information about your account as possible when sending in the first appeal.

Any questions/concerns then please feel free to PM me. - Now locking this thread.
