Re: Plus 3

This thread seems to be veering away from the "we'd really like to see Plus3 in action" theme to "is multi-boxing fun/effective?" Apologies if you want to return to the former topic as I'm going to weigh in on the latter. As a former CH multi boxer (I maxed out at 4 devices), I found that playing multiple, optimized characters, gave the following benefits, among others:
  • Never waste time putting together a party
  • Certainty of everyone's role, abilities, and contributions to the fight, levelling session, etc.
  • Certainty of everyone's expectations of the fight, levelling session, rewards, etc.
  • Certainty of everyone in the party's availability
  • These combined to eliminate a lot of the drama factors that stem from the underlying mechanics of CH
Personally, I played CH partly as an escape from the drama of real life. Multi-boxing gave me a mental/physical challenge while enabling me to bypass many of the emotional challenges that I really wasn't seeking in a game. The certainties allowed me to choose the time and place to engage in the multiplayer aspects of the MMO on my own terms rather than the uncertainties forcing the rules of engagement on me. In essence, multi-boxing gave me personal agency.

Regarding whether a multi-boxer can perform as effectively or efficiently as someone who single boxes, I tended to look at the combined effectiveness of the toons taken together. While one toon may have a build that is a poor example of its class, it may have been built for a specific purpose that gives another toon 3x or higher effectiveness. This is pretty similar to the approach of some clans (or real life special teams for projects, military, sport, etc.)

I'll paraphrase/quote an old post of mine from 2 years ago (http://celtic-heroes.com/forum/viewtopi ... 96#p436346):
I think the people who accuse multi-boxers of substandard performance need to take a long hard look at the kinds of people who they let into a fight. Ultimately, a given character's contribution to a fight is only as good as the player behind the device. Some people playing 2 or more devices at once can play each of those devices significantly better than others playing only a single device. In many cases 65% of a Lukov x 3 devices or 80% of a Venus x 2 devices is going to be a better fight than 100% of [not named player afk with device in pocket his way to school] or 100% of [not named player with a tank build but we have a good tank already so just auto attack] or 100% of [not named player supposed to be taking care of adds on druids but chatting instead so druids die and then everyone blames the druids for not being able to keep the tank alive].

As suggested by my examples above, even when you have a player who is skilled at playing their single character, for some classes how are you going to tell when that player isn't afk, or whether they have an appropriate build for the fight? Again, there will always be a loud chorus of single-account players who have very little awareness of what it takes to play--let alone play well--on multiple devices who are quick to dismiss the performance of multi-boxers. They will defend the second string tank warriors who aren't needed for the fight, or the fire mages who have no lures in their build on lava lord (or whatever the current equivalent is), or the people who decide that a long boss fight is good time to level up their hand-to-hand skill, or the person who shows up right before the fight and says "shoot, all my lux is on my alt and I don't have time to transfer but I'll join the fight anyway".
It seems to me that Plus3 is optimizing for most effective use of his time, on his terms. Full kudos for taking control of your gaming experience.

I think the more the merrier. As many toons as u can handle, even if not at 100% are worth it. At my best I tri logged mage, tank and warrior dps on necro and did swapping for all 3 (my warrior dps, aka Criminal, with most swapping) also at different spots, was tough but worth it.

I dont dual/tri much due my other devices being weak and the difference in performance between the devices really makes it hard for me, as well as Im always taking care of adds so I have hard time being immobile (iphone 4, 4s, 5, 5 works great, 4s crashes, 4 doesnt move much).

Plus3 is correct, many players are already afkers or aim for the kill without adds.
