I'm level 72 so when I get to roughly 77 the shield will be really useful for when I go to the OW

Also, I'm not sure yet but I'm thinking about going mage pure, I love mages now, of course my main is a warrior but suprisingly I don't play him anymore, all hung up on this mage which is unusual because normally I can't stay away from my warrior. But heck I think I could defeat my warrior in PVP even though he's 88.If you want to make your main a mage, i would suggest the shield because the extra damage rogues and warriors use from the bodkin doesn't do much for a mage
Hope this helped!
Back to topic, I got the shield and I really enjoy using it but the main reason I got the shield instead of the focus was because I can use it on my warrior if I do decide to continue to play him.
So also I discovered that with my Bodkin and my (really bad) wand (YULESTAVE)I'd go with the bodkin. Shield and Focus are defensive offhands while mage, being a DPS, is offensive and the bodkin adds quite a bit of additional dmg.
Or wait until a new offhand for mages is out and decide then.
Also, I don't play in the Otherworld, but I hear that a shield is really useful there.

BUT (sorry for being so blunt), I don't really care because I now have 2132 energy. I probably will restat when I get to 77 as I'll need more health when I get to OW but if I continue adding to my health 5 stats each time that'll be 25 more stat points so my vitality will be 60 points. I'll try out in the OW with that but again, I'll need to restat but I still plan to have a whole lot of points in focus.Think about it like this; it would take 17 ticks (85 seconds) in a fight to regen as much energy with mighty crown shield of spirits as you loose from the weight of the shield. IMO any mage that uses Mighty crown shield of spirits is gravely mistaken.
Sorry for the long post
