Re: Why adding a public hive to the mail system would ruin the CH economy.

I have heard this spring around a lot lately and even read many say how the ability to mail your items to other servers would be so much better. A lot of you could probably have figured this out if you really thought about it, but this would destroy the economy and the value of many items would either plummet, or even worse, inflate. How? Well look at it this way. Say OTM adds this feature, everyone is happy they don't need to worry about getting scammed out of world transferring, they are gearing their toons on the other worlds like Mabon and Sulis. Now listen up. Let's take a rare for example, an Avalanche Sled. Not the rarest mount, but its's up there. Say there are 15 Avalanche Sleds on Rosmerta, but only 12 on Rhiannon. The price of the sleds in Rhiannon are higher than the price of them on Rosmerta. Somebody quickly realizes this and goes to Rosmerta with loads of money to buy some sleds and make some profit. Let's say he buys 6 Avalanche Sleds. Now there are 9 on Rosmerta and 18 on Rhiannon. The price of an Avalanche sled slightly lowers in Rhiannon, as this gentlemen decides to sell his 6 for a tad less than the normal price. This guy now tells his buddy of this new tactic. His buddy now goes and buys many Avalanche Sleds on Rosmerta. Say there are now 3 left on Rosmerta, but nobody knows this exactly. That's the point when the value on Rosmerta rises, and Rhiannon increases, because now there are 0 left on Rosmerta and 27 on Rhiannon. They're pretty common on Rhiannon, you see them normally as you would an elder staff, so now the price on Rhiannon drops as players keep exchanging them for lower and lower prices. Now picture the situation with the Avalanche Sled, with EVERY RARE, LUX, FASHION, ETC. It's a lot to take in, but if we look at it like real life, it's easy to understand. I know my examples are pretty stupid and many of you probably already knew how the situation would play out, but I'm just trying to reach out to those who keep complaining about why they cannot mail items to other worlds. The only real way to make this work is by adding a global economy and market. Basically pulling a RuneScape and adding a Grand Exchange.

That's a lot of Avalanche Sleds. 8-)
What would actually happen is at the beginning prices would be crazy and then they will level off to whole server prices and the economy would all be one.

yes, in the long run everything returns to an equilibrium. But the question is how long until that occurs? How much damage is done in that time? If its a month or two ok then that isn't all that bad. But if its a year, that would devastate servers. As has been said epona would crumble as EG would flood away.

So ya things would eventually level off, but how much damage will be done in the time that it takes to do that.
Feel free to pm me about anything or talk to me in game :D

People keep saying this but why is this a good thing? Every server has a different pace in game and unique homegrown environment that evolved in the last 5 years. Making every server the same ruins that. If I was OTM, why would I destroy it?

Which is why you should be only allowed to move gold, but as I said, you would be taxed in order to prevent large amounts of players moving all at once. Being able to move items is silly, if you want to move to anther server you would have to start fresh with nothing but your reduced amount of gold you moved over. Same goes for plat items, if you want plat items right away then buy some plat and spend the plat on the server you moved to. Could potentially increase sales for otm and players can finally xfer to a different server if they really wanted to without having to worry about being scammed

Server transfer isn't going to fix what's wrong with the game. Doesn't matter if it's just gold and bound items. It will just create more issues and moving players around will not solve longevity and sustainability problems we are seeing.

I'd rather have OTM focus on fixing the current content and adding better ones than deal with bandaid fixes like server transfer and cross server mail.

It doesn't create more issues, it just gives players an opportunity to move to a server that suits their play style

It does too. There's already a name conflict issue they have to solve, for starters. Many others as have been discussed in the past, i don't need to rehash all of it here.

So you'd rather have players stay stuck on a server they dislike and don't want to risk getting scammed or spend money just to get a good start? If players want to move to a new server that they would find more enjoyable then they should have the right to do so without the risk of getting scammed or spending real money.
