3) Should I save up and get the most expensive mount or pet or the cheapest one?

I would advise getting a Tier 4 pet and leaving it at level 1. Rather get a Tier 1 pet and breed it to level 3; same token cost, with a higher benefit. While the ceiling of the skills/attributes is higher with the Tier 4 pet at level 6 (128 tokens, I believe), it takes a LOT more than the Tier 1 pet at level 6 (32 tokens) - in my opinion, the exorbitant cost to max a Tier 4 pet far surpasses the marginal benefit.

My opinion on the matter - other's feel differently. Just providing info from my experiences.

Yes, effectively, leveling a tier 4 pet to lvl 6 has, in my opinion, a very marginal benefit to leveling a tier 1 pet to level 6. The cost, for me, of 128 pet tokens for a tier 4 level 6 pet vs. 32 pet tokens for a tier 1 level 6 pet, does not outweigh the marginal benefit. As you are not planning on paying for plat, i would advise going the tier 1 pet route. I believe there are some posts showing the actual benefits of each level for each tier - otherwise, you can find the information in the pet breeder vendor.

An example would be, say you have 4 pet tokens:
- A Tier 4/Level 1 (Red) Wolf costs 4 tokens. The resulting wolf would provide
* STR = 16, ATT = 29, PHYS EV = 29
- Four Tier 1/Level 1 (Brown) Wolves cost 4 tokens (1 ea) total and can be upgraded, through the breeder, to achieve a Tier 1/Level 3 Wolf resulting in
* Str = 40, ATT = 80, PHYS EV = 80

As far as buying them in AH, that is a pretty good option. I have done a lot of bounties and saved/upgraded my bounty tokens to be able to get my pet fully upgraded; however, I did end up buying some in AH to get through the last level.

Ultimately it will come down to how much time/energy you want to put into it, this has just been my experience.

You have said you will not being buying chests, but let me add a comment for readers who are considering.

In the new aeon chest the token (pet and mount) appears to have dropped to 5 per 100. The trade off is that you have a chance for a legacy mount. The drop rate for legacy mounts is difficult to calculate since the rate is so small, maybe 1 per 1000.

Do consider waiting for the new pet and mounts to be introduced. I have made the mistake before of getting before the introduction of a better choice. I think beta and update will occur after Muldar returns from vacation, so just hold off for now.

I have been reading that an upgrade is coming, I figured it would be best to hold off on getting pets to see what is new.

Yes the tier 1 vs 4 makes sense, especially since my boss (wife) won't allow me to buy plat..
