CALM?!?!!?

#1
someone please help me out here... i am a lvl 90 druid and i honestly have no idea what calm does. i have even used a red book and put 15 points in it and it had no effect on anything i did. Someone please help me out here and describe in detail what this spell does.

Calm reduces the amount of aggro a boss or mob has on a player.

If you are in a boss fight and a mob spawns and goes to the tank. Sometimes right after you heal that tank the mob runs to you. If you cast a Calm spell on yourself often the mob will leave you and return to tank.

You can also use calm on a rouge who puts on more aggro that an tank can overcome.

The more skill points you put into calm the more effective it is.

Few druids put any points into calm. A 1/15 calm spell does the job most of the time.

Hi MotherNature here,
I agree with Perl aswell. Calm is effective in reducing agro on the Druid themselves or any damager if you cast it on them. The skill is very similar to the skill Distract. However distract can only be used on the mob, by a rogue ,while calm is used on yourself or other players... Be careful who you cast on though. If anyone accidentally casts calm on the tank... It's very dreadful and could lead to all dps ending up dead.
Also I must agree I do not notice much of a difference in the level of calm... Mine works fairly well and I have it currently at level 1/25.

So. Calm reduces agro on the player selected.

I use Calm literally EVERY boss fight I go into. I have it at lvl one... if an add attacks me, I cast calm, and guess what...? It reduces the agro, or "Calms" the agro I have, and the add goes to some lucky rogue/ranger/warrior that hasn't noticed the add killing the druid... works great... even at lvl 1

I have calm at 1/25 with a grand ring to make it 5/25 and it never fails. If a mob has only hit you it won't work, but if you get heal aggro or a rogue gets aggro from a boss, I've never had a problem with it. It is an amazing skill that is sorely underrated.

I'm surprised that you waste a spot in yer rings on a Calm Ring. I'm not doubting that a 5/25 calm works wonders, but a 1/25 calm works enough to warrant never needing a single point in it.

Obviously depends what rings you have etc, but seems a really weird ring to use.

I use calm on other Druids/Mages that get adds. Too many Druids heal other support and then get their aggro on them, calm the other Druids instead and let dps pick the adds up.

Glad I seen this was just about to make my own post about it reali do t get calm! I'm a level 124 Druid and yes I get adds on me every so often so I use calm on my self and every single time I use calm (it being level 1) it works no matter his big the mob is, so what are the actual benefits of having more skill points in it anyways? Becuase t always takes agro off you anyways :|

I have something like 10-12 points in calm and some rings I equip sometimes. I use calm very often, and I am able to keep aggro off of dps during bosses. A lvl 130-145 ranger or rogue picks up aggro fairly quickly and I can calm them to get it back on a lower lvl tank, like lvl 120 or so. Sometimes we have 2 high lvl tanks so we buff up one and want him to take hits, but the other high lvl tank steals aggro. In this case, it's easier to calm the aggro stealing tank and get it back on the buffed one than it is to recast all your buffs on the aggro stealer.

Also, when lvling with a partner I sometimes calm them and take hits myself to help my skill evasion abilities. And I have had higher lvl Druid clanmates struggle with mobs attacking them during bosses and their lvl 1 calm does not remove their aggro because they heal a frickin ton. So I hit them with my high lvl calm and the mob jumps off of them right away.

Back in the days when clans on Danu would always ks bosses from each other, I would use a high lvl calm on the other clan's tank. It caused bosses to kill their dps members and negated the damage advantage they might have had from cloak of fire. For those on servers who still have clan wars, it's a fun trick.

To be honest I just haven't found a ring to replace it yet.
