Huge -1 to this for reasons I’ve described in different posts.
In short: Based on how the game is ran and the intentional low drop rates of certain items, an implementation of this would devastate certain servers while others would greatly benefit.
Yeah the low drop rates I feel like are to encourage trading.
Imagine your a rogue. You get a druid item. You sell the druid item so you can afford a rogue item in the future. That kind of idea is kind of the reason why the ah exists now. I still don't see how it could devastate only some servers when the whole economy is united into one economy. I feel like there are some issues obviously. As we have talked more about the issue, more people have come out with great ideas to stop abuses of the system and keep servers stable. As I see it, it is certainly going to have backlash, but in the end (if done well) it could really be an economic booster!
The biggest issue with the cross server auction house is that it will never really work for gear if other servers continue to refuse to sell drops. Epona will be sucked dry and the flow of gold will slow down for the server. I personally think it would be best if other servers allowed the selling of drops (if global auction was made) because it would benefit the game economy as a whole. As of right now gold has hardly any buying power like it should have on many servers because there’s simply not enough things to buy, which causes inflation. It’s why you see things on Epona being sold for dirt cheap when compared with other servers. When gold has more buying power people are tempted to buy more and more chests, which makes plat items cheaper which makes everyone better off.
Thanks for quoting yourself I passed that comment. THANK YOU. This is an actual issue. I agree. This could be devastating. I could see a server get sucked dry. The problem though is some servers have not much activity to begin with.
So I started to see both sides now. Here's the issue: Some servers already have a bad economy. However, some have stable and good economies. Are we willing to sacrifice a stable economy to help others? If so, could it result in a bad server for all servers? The answer is yes and no. That's the issue. Is it isn't clear what will happen. It is just risky.
I was 100% okay with it until you brought that up. I still feel as though we can do something about it. We can just put NO WORLD TRADE on that item, but I feel like that is just a bandaid.
Here is the good news. Instead of just having one gelebron there are many. Other good news. From my economy class, there is a supply and demand line. Both the supply and demand are both increasing. I think that is self explanatory.
It is a problem though when one increases a lot more than the other.
You are saying that the demand will increase far greater than the supply. Well let's run through what would happen if either increased far more than the other.
The demand increases far more than the supply
The price in the auction house would just shoot up as more people want the same thing, but no one has as much. Since that price shoots up, buying power decreases for that item. Other items begin to rise and the buying power decreases further. Less people buy things, less buying power. However, something happens. You see this when a price goes too high. No one buys. Then someone sells for cheaper and no one can compete with a higher price and the price goes back down. So even though things may have been high at first the economy has a natural way of fixing itself when things get really overpriced. So yes the price would go up, but it would go down (but not as much). Overall the prices would be higher which is obviously bad.
The supply increases far greater than the demand
We may see this for something like this with warden boss drops, and maybe other boss drops for armor. The supply goes up further than demand. The price lowers and more people buy. More people buying equals more buying power which means more demand and prices go back up (but not as much). Which this ultimately is a good thing.
There are certainly going to be things in both natures. I don't believe weapons will crash the economy, but I do believe that they could certainly leave a dent.
Until now, I thought this was an infallible idea, but I believe there could certainly be problems with the weapons. Still don't think the idea should be shoot down though, but certainly we need to be careful. I will keep thinking about the weapons. I just haven't done much thinking about that.
