Love this. The people that don't are the ones from the best clans on their worlds in which they can take all the bosses and hoard the drops. This will bring balance, and I like it. That is coming from a high-level.
Well if BLRD and I agree on something then it must be best for the game. So let it be written, so let it be done.

This makes what 4 things now. ;-)
Haha it's a miracle!
Balance? I don't think so. But if this ever makes it to the live game, we will just adapt and have our rangers bolas the bosses til everyone arrives.
That's good, you will adapt :) even got your next boss hoarding techniques on the way, I like it :)

Every rule has its pros and cons.

The lock is not perfect but has fewer cons then the current system.

All Lock does is code in what most worlds use now as the honor system. If someone else is attacking then dont attack.

This is not just a CH thing see the attached MMRPG etiquette posts.

Don’t:Kill steal! Kill stealing, usually abbreviated as KS, is the act of attacking a monster or NPC that another play is already attacking or about to engage. It’s extremely annoying and also a quick way to make enemies. You wouldn’t want others to kill steal you, so don’t do it to others.

First Rule of Not Acting Like an Idiot: NEVER EVER KS ANOTHER PLAYER!
This is one of the biggest rules of the game. KS, for those of us not versed in the vernacular of MMORPGs, is an abbreviation for Kill Steal. Basically, this is when you attack a monster who is already engaged in combat with another player. This drastically reduces the exp earned by that player, and leads to much strife between you and s/he. This has been one of the biggest complaints from the higher leveled characters, that this game is filled with "noob ksers OMG!" KSing is bad. Don’t do it. The ONLY time you should attack a monster that is attacking another character is when you're partied, and during Hai-Ul spawns. The second one is kind of controversial, but in my opinion, when the Hai Ul spawns, Hais are flying everywhere, everyone is using Area effects, lag is rampant, it's almost impossible not to KS. So just get in there and flail away.

I read through everything and don't think this has already been posted. The idea of locking a target seems like a plausible solution to the KS fiasco, except I see one issue with it that hasn't been stated yet.

What happens if someone locks the target by attacking first, then groups with other people, and then drops the group before the very end of the fight? To me unless you take something like that into consideration anyone could drop their group if they were the one who initiated the lock and obtain all the drops.

Solution: Once someone has a lock on the target - anyone who is grouped thereon after is forced to stay in the group until the group finishes the target or dies in the process therefore losing the lock. In essence you can always add people to your group, but you cannot regroup or leave the group. It should also be said that only the person who initially forms the group can add anyone else to the group. Think about it... How annoying is it when you group two or three people for a boss who can easily take down the boss, but then someone adds someone else in that group because they are so and so's friend, but ultimately are unecessary to kill the boss and lessens your chance to obtain a drop?

Just my thoughts to consider....

Beautiful post.

Yes this proposed change addresses 1 of the 2 ways of kill stealing. It prevents stealing a monster an ungrouped player is attacking, but doesn't prevent a player from stealing a monster another player found first and is preparing to fight.

Why play a class where skills cost more than other classes for same damage?
Why play a class with no auto attack?
Why play a class with 1/3 the armor?
Why play a caster?

It did cross my mind, but that same thing can be done now. The DPS person can leave the group at anytime and be awarded the kill.

The way to fix it in my opinion would be award the kill to the locked group, so if the DPS person leaves, the group still gets the kill.

I don't know if that can be implemented though. And your idea I kind of doubt would work either, because you can't really not let people leave groups heh. Mabye you could, you would just have to warn them that "you are about to enter a group locked on 'enter monster name' and will not be able to leave untill the monster is dead or your group all dies". But it may turn out to be impossible to leave the group if people start getting locks on multiple monsters over and over.

Also if the group leader is the only one who can invite what is to prevent them from grouping you then inviting all their low level clannies? It goes both ways and you deserve the right to invite others just like they do to the group IMO.

I dont know how I could have missed this topic.

What admin is describing is the first hit rule people have been asking for in all the KS threads.

Has this been implemented? Is it going to be implemented? What is the visible cue that tells you who has lock?
Heh it is a new post, I just changed the title of the topic to show people that admin answered and helps explain it. I have seen people change the title like this recently after admin responded to their topic so I thought it was a good idea.

Well this would take the thrill out of the game. Not to mention the money out of OTMs pockets, well at least mine. You can count me out if it's implemented
Why would you leave? Can you elaborate? No one wants players to leave.
