The idea of target locking IMO is completely ridiculous. I have tried to reserve judgement on it till I heard all sides of the arguement and here is what I have gathered (no offense is meant to anyone):
It seems to me that after each update, the new players have become more and more lazy and have found that if they complain on the forum enough they will get what they want. Diamond armour being better than frozen is a clear example of this, as many people before this update complained that they were not able to get metoric or warden, and the reason for this (at least on rosemerta) is that they fall under one of several categories: they are jerks, complain about everything, are beggers, scam, or (worst of all in my opinion) lie constantly. I know this description does NOT fit everyone that complains to have things changed to make it easier for lower level people, but it fits a vast majority. The solution to this problem is simply level, it is extremely easy, and don't give me the arguement that is too hard, more xp should be awarded, or your class can't level well. Everyone that is a high level has leveled, and if you refuse to level and continue to complain, well that's your own fault, and please don't try to change things to accomidate your being to lazy to level. Many will think I am being way to harsh, but I think I speak for almost all higher level players that this request is just completely ridiculous.
I have posted this suggestion many times, and seems to keep getting overlooked so here it is again: make it available to invite people to subgroups so they can receive credit for the quest, but not able to receive drops or count toward dmg for kill. To help mass ksing that happens on some servers, make 1/2 the percentage of the time you have aggro for the boss count towards total dps, for example if one group tanks 80% of the boss, 40% of the groups total dps would be added to their total, making it very hard for ksing if groups don't start at the same time. The reason I say half the dps and not full 80% is so that tanks do not become OP.
To repeat, target locking is an absolutely ridiculous idea, and if implimented I fear much of OTM's plat buyers and higher lvls will abandon this game and go to one that accommodates the people that have put in time and effort to level and become better instead of the people that complain to get what they want. If you are high level and get ksed alot, there is a good chance your clan used to ks alot and another clan is finally able to win sometimes, it happens.
On my server this used to go back and forth very often in update 2, and my clan would sometimes go a week getting ksed on every boss, did all of us come to forums and complain that it was unfair? No. (some may have, but noone did that I know of) we lvled until we were better than them, and than it went the other way and we ksed alot, and this went back and forth alot without anyone complaining. Now there is a new group of players coming in and are trying to change the system because they don't want to put in the effort to level so they can beat others.
Personally, I do not ks for the sake of ksing, I rarely do it at all, and I cannot think of a time where a have actually ksed a group of lower level players. I am guilty of ksing groups of players my level on bosses. I have also been ksed, is it the best feeling in the world? No. Just do what everyone else has to do, level and become better so they cannot ks you.
