Hey guys, here's another story :D

The quest of a young ranger

My wool boots made no sound on the short grass as I tiptoed along the edge of Farcag Castle, scanning the carved turrets for any sign of danger. In the distance, Crookback trolls milled about, clothed in grey rags. Even though the green, putrid creatures looked like and easy kill, they could knock me out with a simple swipe of one of their wooden clubs. Being a level 1 only, I was vulnerable and weak. My arm muscles were slack and untrained and my bow was an almost useless tree branch bent into the shape of a half circle. Still, I crouched behind a pale green shrub and aimed my arrow at a Crookback Caveguard. My fingers trembled as I slowly let go of the arrow. I took a deep breath and disconnected my hand from the back of my weapon. The sharp arrow hurtled towards the troll, who was unaware of the oncoming 'danger'. The arrow hit him in the back, knocking him backwards. My lungs tensed as the Caveguard looked around him, struggling to catch sight of my unremarkable figure huddling by the castle wall. The troll's yellow eyes flashed with anger as he stomped around the cave entry, snorting and grunting. He could spot me any second. Sweat started to form on my forehead, and I thought that I should make a frantic run for it. But I couldn't. I sat there, petrified as a level 1 could be. How could I have been so silly to challenge a Crookback troll? My hopes of levelling up had been too strong and now I was stuck here, squeezed between the mouldy Farcag Castle walls and a flimsy bush. The Guard stumbled in my direction, waving his rusty but lethal axe. His hooked, long nose was trembling with rage and his mouth was frothing yellow spit. He scratched his green, hairless scalp- and turned. His evil eyes lit up. My heart stopped for a moment as the creature bounded towards me, his weapon raised. But I stood my ground. I rose from my hiding place and readied an arrow. The troll dived onto me, hacking his axe into my shoulder. I howled in pain as blood spurted from the gash, staining the axe. The agony blinded me for a second and I staggered against the mossy castle wall. The troll lunged again, swinging his axe towards my head. I ducked quickly and let go of my arrow. The sharp object pierced the Guard's stomach, and he gave an annoyed grunt. Nothing else. Deep disappointment mixed with the unbearable pain in my shoulder. But I couldn't stop fighting now. The troll was intent to kill me and I had to endure the pain and fight back. I clenched my teeth and released another arrow. And another. The troll was taken aback but he had more health than me. I could feel the life abandoning me. My shoulder throbbed terribly. I couldn't take it anymore. I gasped, trying to get air into my lungs. The Caveguard struck again and again, hitting the same spot in my bleeding shoulder. How silly I was, I thought miserably to myself as I collapsed with a last groan. I waited in pure anguish for the axe to crush my shoulder one more time. Before I closed my eyes to die, I gazed at my last arrow, lying still at my side. I took it with bloodied fingers and connected it to my broken bow. With a painful scream, I yanked my shattered shoulder backwards and let the arrow go. The troll roared at me and bared his yellow, square teeth. Was gone, I knew. I fell to the ground, clutching my shoulder. Blood seeped through my fingers, but I didn't care. It was all over. I gasped as a sudden energy wave surged through me, taking all my senses for a brief moment. I clutched the grass, not knowing what was happening to my body. Was I dying? I let go of my shoulder- and gasped. A white, clean bandage was neatly wrapped around my wound, soaking up all the pain. I sat up and looked around me. I spluttered helplessly as I spotted the troll, lying lifelessly in the short grass, my arrow stuck in his chest. "That was close!" a voice said. I swiftly looked around, struggling to my feet. A Mage in a light blue tunic stood by my wrecked arrow, examining it. "Who..." I stammered hoarsely, staring at the Mage in disbelief. "I healed you," he said, smiling warmly at me, pointing at my bandaged shoulder. My mouth hung open. "Thanks..." I said, my mind spinning slowly. "So I see you're only a level two, and you're already challenging Crookbacks!?" the Mage exclaimed with wide eyes. Then he vanished, like a blown-out flame. Fast travel, I breathed in admiration- and then almost choked! Level two? Me? I looked at my magical statistic sheet in disbelief. My breath was stuck in the back of my throat. Then, I sprang to my feet and let out a joyful yell. Crookback trolls stopped in their tracks, their unknowing eyes dull and uncaring. They watched uninterestedly as a young ranger skipped down the Farcag Castle hill, singing loud melodies of glory in an out-of-tune voice.
