As I sit here in a crane my mind begins to wonder. How diffrent things are and how people have changed some for the good others for the bad, it beccons me to post such a topic in order to share what I see and know to be true.
To the new and young: Fisrt off, Welcome to the game, there are many here that can provide a fair enviorment where you can level, learn and have fun. Now its not a fast ride mind ya, your gonna need some endurance and some understanding of how much time is needed to get where your wanting to go. The biggest tip I can offer you is that your actions will be judged by all who see your actions, its a good ideal to start with acting with some humble intenchions not as a class clown. The more people see you wanting to learn how the game works the more they will want to help you. But keep this in mind, there are no free rides, begging, scamming and anyother acts that could lead to your blocking will come to pass.
To the old historic players: You guys hold the key, when you stand on honor and fairness people look up and see what you stand on and follow it with out question But when you faulter your dreams of the old days will soon run aground. Like it or not being old school player can mean you are the example of what was and what should be, you are the leader of today and could be for tomarrow if you so see it fit. When you guys fail to stand on the best ground it will seem all the world is a mist and order is out the door with no control and no hope for change. Making a great leader is not given to the weak but earned to the ones that can be followed.
To the ones who act as if everything is free: Take some cold water and spash your self in the face, nothing is free, you scam someone for free items you will be faced with a history, can that history follow you when you no longer wish to be known as a jerk? Yes, time will tell when the gold has lost its luster and the items are few and far out of reach, you will want to become like others because of the passing of time, your place in the game is not wanted but yet you need to be wanted. My tip to you today is change, stop what your doing and look how you could be with out all that history, where you could be if you had friends that would stop everything to help you out. You dont believe it, you cant see it, well thats because its not there or can be seen and it will not unless you stop and make that change then and only then will you see how far you can go and who will help you to get there.
To the ones who say nothing and do little: To each is own, if you cry about what is and do nothing to help change it then that is your way but dont expect people to change just because you have no will or hope to help it. You can keep playing the game and never say 2 words and make it to level 200, its a lonly road but it is possible. Find this to be true, after you hit level 200 we will all expect you to quit and move on to another game or stay in the arena and show off your abilitys.
There are many players out there who know how to play the game and how to be great leaders, they lack the ability to step up or see the countless hours of there effort ever paying off, its the blind trust you must see where no one else sees it and have the will to keep standing on the ground that will take your team, your clan, your direction to the top. Its not enough to be the highest level but to also have the biggest goal of them all.

#4For as long as I've known you, Merlin, not once have I ever witnessed you waver in your convictions, and for anyone who feels somewhat dispossessed of a moral compass, or in need of a point of reference, then you are about as close to a true north as they are likely to find.
Even more remarkable, chap, is the seemingly boundless energy with which you continue to fight for the principles you cling to.
For someone that works as hard as you do off-game, it would be so easy to fall into a state of apathy when on-line, but this has never been true of yourself.
As ever, bud, you have my utmost respect.

#6Thank you Micky, our fight has always been one and the same, its the hopes that one player reads this and makes a small change with the new understanding. Micky you are one of the leaders working on the best ground that people follow you on. I know many who will say the same.Very wise words to say the least, people should take a little time to read thru this and understand it. Good work brother !
This was an effort to provoke change in the ones who don't see or understand. And your point?
Your validation for my creditability humbles me to no end, I recall a time where I sought you out for help and understanding, you gave it freely with kindness and even followed up to make sure I understood, people like that are rare, it's that reason why I will not say one thing but mean another. For as long as I've known you, Merlin, not once have I ever witnessed you waver in your convictions, and for anyone who feels somewhat dispossessed of a moral compass, or in need of a point of reference, then you are about as close to a true north as they are likely to find.

The sad truth of the matter is that our old school players are so tied up in real life that they can not devote the needed time to lead.

Re: The Turning Away
#8I do not see anyway one can be so serious about a free mmorpg, a game. Congratulations to all that fare well or that have achieved endgame, but what has that done for you? In the end this is a game. It is the individuals choice to play how they wish to play, and to what extent they allow the game to affect their real lives. Merlin, how your words are wise or deep are not seen by me as your words fall flat to the truth that this game clouds the mind from the truth that this game does not accomplish anything and having items, caring for others, being whoever you are, whether it be a scammer or truthful soul, impacts nobody in all actuality.

#9Purple, you are right in as much as this is just a game, in the the same way that a song is just a song, or a film is just a film. But this is not to say that a person cannot be moved by them in life, either consciously or subconsciously.
When a persons gaming life draws to an end, for whatever reason, it is true there is nothing material they make take from it. No more shall they have need of prized armour. It shall be cast off, and their aggy books put aside. Yet despite this, they have had a poor gaming experience indeed, if they have gained nothing at all.
There is a quote, I half recall (and may have been popularised in the film gladiator), which states what we do in life echoes in eternity. With this in mind, what I would add, is that for every stone we cast online, the ripples extend to life outside.
If someone has has a bad day of gaming, they might quite easily pass the homeless guy sleeping in the shop doorway, without so much as sparing a thought, let alone a coin. Whereas someone who has been shown kindness and generosity, and be left with a sunnier disposition, may more readily reach into their own pocket. Who is to judge the eventual value of that single pound / dollar?
A person who has been uplifted or downtrodden, whether in-game or not, can carry that mood with them and give of it to those that cross their path, and to assert otherwise is a tad naive.
In short, generosity, kindness, truth, and empathy, are never a waste of time or effort, regardless of the environment in which they are manifest initially.
