There will be a complete overhaul of the sound at some point in the future, most likely when we move to the new engine we can have 3D sound etc.
3D sound?!?

Also, this doesn't sound like a terrible idea to me, but maybe with cheaper prices:
not to worry, CH will be selling background music charm in the next update through a bard character in the tavern soon.
those charm can be equipped with other non music charm on fashion slot. there will be various selections range from 100k - 500k a piece.
songs will be added frequently, and there will be matching emoticons.

... yeah right...

But yeah, I always just to listen to my own music (classical is all I listen to pretty much) while playing. It's really fun when I'm in my Crookback outfit and "In the Hall of the Mountain King" comes on
Griesbachan, Level 76+ Druid
Inhabitant of the realm of Lugh
Proud Recruit of Clan Ancients

Once I get to level 80, get full Green Shadow Armor, and get myself an icon, I'd be interested in having an artisic rendering of my character for my sig. :D

FYI, if you turn off the in-game music, log out, open itunes, play your favorite music and then reenter the game you can play the game while listening to whatever music you have. You can even play your own background music and hear the sound efx over top if you wish.

The downside is you don't have a way to control the track being played from within the game, but at least you have some variety. Integrating an mp3 player that uses your itunes library would be a nifty feature for the game - certainly not a necessary one, but nifty...

Double click the home button and scroll along to the iTunes screen when the bar at the bottom comes up. It doesnt't disconnect for me :)
