Nope doesn’t matter. British invented the sport and called it soccer, so that is technically what the official name is. Only reason why the Brits call it football is because they for whatever reason got butt hurt over the Americans adopting the term.“Soccer is the correct term”
I can tell you “ignorant” Americans that Britain has used football for generations. It was adopted a long time ago and is the official name of the sport for Almost all of the world.
Saying football can literally mean 5+ different sports... soccer, American football, Australian football, Canadian football, rugby, etc... the term soccer was made to distinguish association football from all the other variants.
Why does the rest of the world call soccer football? Probably because most countries only have/play one form of football, soccer.
