Maybe this has already been asked and answered, and if so i apologize, but why do the fixes that allow lower end devices to play the game again require a full game update through the App Store? Why cant you just release a patch of the game that contains all of the things needed for lower end devices to play. Thanks for reading and hopefully someone who knows what they're talking about can respond. Also, best guesses on when the update will come out? Thanks

It's not a PC title would be quickest answer.

I don't believe you've played since the v5 update (judging by your forum join date).. So it's good for you to know about this!

For the longest time, all updates to the game (Events, skill nerfs, minor updates, etc) is done by a Patching system. When you log in, it first connects to the patch server and then the world server..The only time the game needs an apple update was during a code change. Since the iPod 4g issue is a code-based issue, OTM needs to release the update through Apple.

In short, details such as added/changed items, mobs, and npcs use patches, while game mechanics and the game's code requires an apple update. OTM of course would not allow the users access to the source code, however compiling the game and presenting that through the patch system would cause everyone to wait while gigabytes of data was loaded.. And considering many devices don't have issues, and the patch is meant for iPod 4g users, the update through Apple makes sense.

So After the update ipod 4g users can start to play again? And if so then how smooth do you think the game will run?
