Why would you put points into dex (to avoid hits) and then build Fire Cloak, when fire cloak only damages when mobs hit you? Better, I think, to put the Cloak points into Incinerate.

I think this has been tested and confirmed that cloak of fire works if you get hit or evade the hit. Mdimarco, can you weigh in on this?

I found the link I was referring to

With that much Dex, you *should* be evading a lot.
Does it evade? Or do you end up as chopped meat?

yup cloak hits even if you dodge.
Some thoughts:
Dex helps your chance to hit
dex helps your chance to dodge parry ect
focus helps lures and fire cloak
energy shield can make up for low vit
high vit works well to tank and work with druids
incinerate not good without eshield, at least it was hard to get a cast off before patches.
firebolt probably still best dps skill to use with melee setup.

I currently have 100 dex and I think mdimarco has about 160. It certainly helps land punches as a h2h Mage. Although, I'm thinking of dropping it down to 50-60 and put the leftover into focus. I know it helps me land punches, but I don't know by how much.

dex helps your chance to hit.
I am melee mage, and my main problem is that i miss too much. have to train my h2h more (now in 450/750) and get some dextery
.i have 50 focus for lure and cloak, and the rest in health, it works fine. Of course this wouldn´t be the same without the fire sword lol
the only skills i use are cloak or fire, lure of fire and eneergy boosts.
does anyone know when ill be able to put more skill points in my spells? actually im lvl 75 and can just put 20 skill points

Ok my Mage does not use this but my rogue does. I have a 300 dex and a 100 vit. Maxed out fast reflexes gets me to a defense over 1000. And I fight with a high damage offhand.
It works great on one star mobs my level plus a few. One stars tend not to use a lot of skills and I will normally loose under 200 hp per fight. The best part is you have nothing to regen. The reason I said one star mobs is because two and three stars tend to use more skill hits than one stars. High dex helps with skill hits not at all. Down side is I can't take a three star my level. So mobs per minute is very fast but you have to be more discriminate who you fight.
