Countries have different philosophies. The world has a number of different flavors ranging from republic, communist, theocracy, pure democracy and tyranny. America is very much a lift yourself up by your own bootstraps kind of place. Nothing is stopping anyone from moving to the government of their choice. But if you try to change the nature of a country it will take many years. The progressive movement has been trying to make the US more socialist since the 1930s. It just doesn't sit well with us. Safety net OK but not a hammock.
