Anytime a ranger spear topic appears people just become negative or dont answer the OP's question This thread is civilised compared to most.

I've used spears to level on occasion (mostly below 140) and I found it fun. Always went back to Bow but never had a good spear.

Anything different for a while keeps you playing. I went 5 levels around 140s using an Ymir Bow in a particular spot. Slow but challenging. In the 120s I used a cruel knife a lot and it was hilarious. People didn't Lix so much back then though. And the sling blade thingy that Rogues get too was also good for a change.

The fact that some people swear by Spears (in certain level ranges) shows me that it must be good with the right build...and Spear.

I used to play as a spear ranger and had a lot of fun doing it. It really shines with a dex build. However once the newer bow skills where introduced I switched back to bow (I absolutely fell in love with explosive arrow). Anyhow, a spear ranger has always been a viable build. The thing is you have to be 100% committed to that play style in order for it to work. Pay attention to your skill choices and make sure you can use them with a spear, I say this because it's a common mistake a lot of new spear rangers make. Then gear yourself accordingly. As a spear ranger your not designed to take a beating like a Melee warrior tank but rather made to avoid hits with massive amounts of dexterity and skills training. So choose your gear wisely.

If nothing else playing as a spear ranger lets you play an old toon in a new way. If you find you don't enjoy it, the good news is you can always switch back. I find the majority of those children on the forums that are so quick to dismiss spear Rangers have never actually played one to its fullest. I suggest giving it a try for yourself and make your own decision.

I've tried spear build around lvl 160-170. Can't say it was bad but wasn't better than bow. I gained only a little bit of dmg, probably 100-150 so barely noticable. On top of that I lost the thing that makes a ranger a ranger. Their ability to fight at range. I dropped spear build quite a while back. In all honesty it won't increase your dps much. Even now, u can have great dps as a dex build due to fixes. Spear ranger isn't even good tbh, because a rogue could do 50 times better with a spear than a ranger. And also, why lose our range? It's one of the few things we have that actually is a good part of Rangers.

I tried it, if you cast rapid shot with a bow then swap to a spear it says "rapid shot removed" and the haste is removed. It cannot be casted with spear either.

Lmao why would you cast with a bow and then swap to spear, that's only for steady aim. As above rapid shot works with the spear equipped
