A search hasn't resulted in explicit answers to my questions:

1. Does each expansion of the 5 bank expansion chest contain 10 bank slots for a total of 50?

2. When the chest is used, will it put 5 bank expansion items in inventory which can be sold separately or will all 50 slots be immediately applied?

3. Does the same use apply to chests containing backpack expansions and sigils?

2. No
3. Yes

If I understood correctly.

Armo is correct.

Each expansion contains 10 slots, for a total of 50.

When it is used, the 50 slots will be immediately applied to your character.

The same applies to chests which contain Backpack Expansions and Sigils.
