By the way, when you said energy shield is broken in the sense that focus and ice magic aren't taken into account, how come this is the case? So is the number on the skill page actually different from what damage I'm blocking?
The energy shield damage that is shown in the skill page only scales with skill level and does not increase with focus or ice magic. You can try this yourself; look at your shield strength right now, use a rebirth book (so your focus is reset to 10), then look at it again. The number displayed does not budge. If you are still doubtful, try dumping all your stat points into focus. No change. The same thing happens when you equip an ice magic boosting item.
My guess is that OTM put in the wrong equation for energy shield on the skill page, so even though it says it depends on focus and ice magic, the shown number does not.
Now, I do not really know whether your true energy shield strength is higher because it scales with focus/ice magic (my gut tells me that the real shield is stronger). There is no certain way to test this because since the update, all damage types (even damage over time) fluctuate with low and high hits.
What I do know is that regardless of how strong your actual energy shield is, I cannot reverse engineer a formula for it until OTM fixes the skill page because I look at the displayed damage to do my equations. If the number shown is incorrect, then the formula will also be incorrect.
Would the focus multiplier apply to all mage skills?
Could the fire magic multiplier be the same
as the ice magic?
Yes, focus and ability increase all mage-specific skills, but it affects each skill differently. The coefficients (#s) in the formula will be different between skills, but the general form should be the same, which is:
Damage = [#(Skill)^2 + #(Skill) + #]*sqrt(Focus) + [#(Skill)^2 + #(Skill) + #]*sqrt(Ability) + #(Skill)^2 + #(Skill) + #
So for example, the fire magic multiplier for fire bolt would probably be different than the ice magic multiplier for ice shards.
And could all this be the same for Druids? I do remember noticing similar increments in skill dmg between mages and druids. Could be worth trying
The general form of the equation (above) should be the same for all the classes—I don't see why OTM would change it. But if you want me to do these formulas for druids or other classes after I've finished with mages, I'll need a high and low level druid character for testing, with a nice pile of alts and rebirths.
