Fire bolt is more effective as extra on ice than Ice shards is as an extra for fire due fire's speed, it lowers the gap between each skill casting as ice is pretty slow while fire is faster than ice.I'm full dps ice and use bolt.

On ice mage builds fire bolt really comes in handy tho.
