Re: Death Penalty

I don't think the death penalty should even be a thing even more, what is this? the dark ages? I mean, you are doing THE SAME THING that they did, does that make you better than them? Why drop to their level, I think a life sentence would be a better fit punishment.
actually a life sentence is only 40 years. Lol don't believe me look it up. Alot of people you are probably wondering why they receive consecutive life sentences. It is to make sure they don't see the light of day.
Thats life with parole smart one. Life without parole means you will be in there until you die. Im all for the death penalty which is surprising since I'm catholic. Idc what you did, if its bad enough that someone decides you should die then, screw it you obviously deserve it.
No actually wise guy life without parole isn't the same thing... You need to look up your facts. Life without parole means they serve a FULL life sentence (40 years) without getting out! Consecutive life sentences are the only way a person will die in prison. That's 80 years if you do your math. Or are you going to argue that too?

Lets not turn to personal attacks

I am against the death penalty for a few reasons
-many people who commit murder are mentally unwell, as a socialist i believe that if someone mentally ill has come to this point, it is society failing that individual.
- many people are later proven innocent after being convicted, which has led to innocent people being executed in the past
- death is an easy way out, i see the death penalty as a way for countries such as america to avoid the cost of housing inmates. Again as a socialist, doesnt sit well with me
- killing another human being does not always make you a bad person per say. For example, the city i live in is run by organized crime, italian mob and hells angels bikers. Both groups are responsible for murders, but only people who have gone out of their way and caused issues for these groups. Law enforcement is never touched by these groups and both large crime organizations contribute heavily to aiding families and children in poverty. Once again a socialist view lol

I think its remarkable that i as a socialist agree that the death penalty is wrong with many conservative christians but for completely different reasons

Hells angel bikers, organized crime, italian mobs? You sure you don't live in New York where I'm from? Jk

I see your points, I agree with death being an easy way out. I just don't know if rotting in jail is enough. The ones with no regret, no remorse. Gee this is a great debate because I'm actually caught in the middle and stuck. Part of me is like who are we to take a life but a part is like who gave them the right to take as well.

I know how cold this might sound, but if someone has commit murder for whatever reason, they deserve punishment. Usually people who have blown a fuse or two commit the most horrid types of crimes and society has no room for them. Keep the cells for people who commit petty crimes.

The death penalty is not only a way to punish serious criminals, it is also the way to keep other people from becoming criminals. However, I believe it needs to be carried out quicker than it is, so that people will see the results of serious crimes, and not just hear about people sitting on death row for 50 years

I like your take on it. Never agreed with you on anything ethic/religion related, but it's nice to see we have a common viewpoint here.
