Re: Deadliest Catch!

The best example I can give was a thread I saw previously where someone was of the opinion "If we all had OP items we would want to play the game more and kill all the bosses"
Now while sure it does sound like a great thing, it does not think about the overall impact on the game, what keeps players coming back? You can kill all bosses, what do you do as you wait for the next one?
So this is the reason why nothing has been done on loot drops because some idiot said this?

Players are simply looking for gratification. When you play a game, especially a pay-to-win game like CH, you'd expect some sort of reward from all the time/effort/money invested. Players expect to get some of the stuff they want within a reasonable amount of time, 6, or even 12 months at most, not 4 years and counting.

Instead all we get are disappointments and frustration, and many players do quit because of this. Most of us just keep playing because CH has a good social platform. I suppose misery brings people together, but joy can do that too.

Sorry, you seem to have misread my post.

I myself am not a Designer and was using that as an example of my statement "changing drop rates has a variety of consequences." using the two statements as examples.

While I agree with you on the point of games should have a rewarding factor do you not agree with my example?

You also seemed to have missed the second part of my quote from your reply:
"I agree with you, there are things I myself would like to see changed, I play the game every day and am part of its community but you forget we have made a massive amount of changes based on player feedback, I know it can be easy to ignore that and focus on the negatives but there have been lots of positives."

(Appologies, I won't be able to reply further tonight. It is the weekend and I am about to leave to see fireworks with friends. Have a good day.)

No I don't agree. I understand OTM's worry that when players all have Void/Godly items, what is there left to do? And perhaps that's why they have 0.00001% drop rates. But I don't think it's unreasonable for us to expect OTM to come up with a new boss every, 12 or 18 months with new and powerful items to collect. All successful MMOs have that kind of progression.

I don't really understand why OTM is forcing its players with killing 185 and 190 bosses with still the most of the best game items when players are over 220 already.

As for fishing and releasing it it pieces, I can understand that too. But do you see anyone with 45+ fishing doing it for the joy of it? They're just doing it because of the bear pet and this is because of the insanely low drop rate of quest items. If fishing is more rewarding, even maxed out players will continue to do so.

That is simply what we players are asking for. Gaming gratification over gaming disappointment.

I 100% agree, they need to fix the fishing it's ridiculous. But only because the bear isn't that good for a life long fishing journey lol

Stop complaining about the crumbling drop rate. I've already fished up a total of 15 pieces of them. Have the bear now too. If u don't wanna grind for bear then just don't. Simple
You are missing the point. Now that you have the bear pet, are you still fishing for the sheer joy of it? I bet you stopped.

And why does everything have to be a grind? Why can't OTM put out content where players actually enjoy doing it?

Fishing was made to be a side activity, which means it gives players another thing to do when there is nothing up or due. If you don't like it then don't fish, that simple. Some find it enjoyable and others not so much, there will always be a divide for everything in this game. CH is a free to play game imo if you pick up on the methods of merching (tried this for the first time the other day and went from 200k to 900k in a day), so I understand the grind this game has and I don't mind it as much as I used to. Another way to gain fast gold (not as fast as merching) is to kill gold bosses and their place holders on spawn (so other players don't come along and take your gold boss). As for the lvling grind, if you only look at the positives (armor sets, new available lux, weapons, etc...) of reaching a high lvl then you will find that it's actually worth the grind. Every MMORPG makes you grind for lvls and gold, not sure why you're so upset over that.

Fishing was supposed to be a side activity. How many players do you see fishing after they got the bear pet? Most likely none.
So in a sense, it's only something players do to get a bear pet.

In many MMOs, crafting is a true side activity, players collecting materials and then selling their crafts thru the AH.
It is usually a long grind to max crafting skills, often costing thousands/millions of gold, but once you get it maxed, players still continue to craft items. They don't stop.

Do you see that with fishing here? I know it's only the first release, but they could've at least given some incentive to continue fishing besides trying to get crumbling items.

You don't mind grinding because you're still a fairly new player who hasn't really gone through all the things available in the game. You haven't even gotten to end game levels. (tired of xp grinding eh? lol)
So I can understand your point of view. You aren't jaded as much as others are.

But with players who have been here for over 4 years and we get new content that was supposed to change gameplay to more enjoyable ones, all we get are brand new things to grind on.
