I think it is the damage adding armor that makes these builds rock. They have no speed so are conditioned by the weapon...

My little dps Druid melees with this type of set up for more than his maxed lightning bolt.... When you add his self buffs and maxed Touch to this it is kind of amazing. I find he is. Ore of an energy hog than any Mage I have run though, if you can beleive that.
Lol the mage of this build needs a druid casting touch, and a druid needs a mage casting sacrifice lol!

Why play a class where skills cost more than other classes for same damage?
Why play a class with no auto attack?
Why play a class with 1/3 the armor?

Also I am a real tank for bossfights, and I have so much health it takes multiple druids to keep up.

And who doesn't need more tanks for bossfights? :)
I am pretty sure that you need mor druids because you take more damage than the druids can heal. Thats due to a lack of armor (mages have low armor, duh) and/or lack of heal strength (low leveled/ improperly set up druid). So eve though it's quite defensive for a mage, it's still not a full tank build. Don't count on tanking anything too high but don't be disapointed as your set up to do damage and support as well.

P.S. This has been mentioned for rangers with rapid shot (and knuckle blades) in a thread I started, so it's not completely original. Not hating :)

Also I did assume other classes did this sometimes (none on beleneus anyway) but not mages. Sounds like some mages here on the forums were doing it however and just didn't speak up! lol

If mages become the tanking class OTM will have offically given up on casters doing damage. Oh well.
Just sad to see that we have to go so far at the opposite of our class normal role to be able to do well.

I have yet to see anything OP being released. All they do is nerf so shhhh, don't give them any ideas.

Lol ya, I hope going forward this build is still kept viable because I kinda like it actually, I have lots of spare skill points for support lures like assasins and soldiers.

But ya the caster mage needs to be improved to be viable lol.

I will say that honestly, though I understand this build, I don't love it. I also think it can be optimized so that you still cast. The reason I don't love it is that i want my Mage to go Boom, Whizz, kerflash!!!

The reason this build works better on mages is that it does not matter of they lose strength. Dps warriors and rogues building along the same lines will lose damage, if they are str asked builds. I tried it already.

Dps Druids are a different matter since they get better in this kind of build using there skills as well.

Hello fellow mages, and people confused by this topic!

Im gonna start off like this... I really dont know if this mage can work even at its max potential, but Im gonna start off at the important parts and want to see if this build can ACTUALLY work. heres how...

Ill cut it short and say this, nobody gives a crap about this build used for training... but instead used to be the highest dps in the game.

So by finding [In my head] the best possible (and efficient) way to make this build
*please note i have not tried this in any way/shape/or form*

Lets start off with building this mage just like a would a DPS str rogue.
So since we are trying to out dps every class we need to have our Focus at max

Str 5
Dex 5
Focus MAXED
Vitality 10

Since I don't need vitality for a boss, ill start off with saying THIS ISNT A TRAINING BUILD, this is to max dps for a mage :P

Im not going to do skills next, since the items are crucial for this... also Im assuming that if your reading this you are a 150 mage with royal rings and stuff.

So lets start off with the highest dps items for a mage.

Helm: Prowess +50 magic
Chest: Radiant bp +120 heat
Legs: Radiant legs +80 heat
Ammy: Radiant ammy +50 heat and +50 magic
Offhand: Fire blade +200 heat
Mainhand: non + im assuming you have 1500 ability on H2H
Rings: +50 dmg ring, and rings that support the skills being used

Lets do some math, correct me if I cant add.

so 600 dmg on auto + your 1500 Hand to Hand, and also the attack of your radiant BP (500 attack)

So lets just say youll hit 400s+ with auto
===============Good job you are now like a 130 rogue with full radiant, but you have not even used your skills yet.

This is wear you will beat a 150 rogue with the same items as you in a battle, because mages hit higher with there skills then rogues do, but rogues auto attack make it so hard to out dps... and this is why mages suck ass btw i have a 150 mage, and still play him for some odd reason.

Now we get to skills assuming your a level 150 mage

35+/35 firebolt
35+/35 incinerate
35+/35 Fire lure
35/35 Energy boost PLUS luxury items, bracelets.. etc...
Rest in Sacrafice...

Can anybody try this, will it work?

Weaknesses or flaws..
Auto might be miss calculated, and may not hit as high as we wanted
Fire bosses, but Lets just say the boss we are trying to out dps is a 140 drag.
Training -- Ya, ya, if somehow.. some of you didnt spend thousands of dollars on this game and didnt make it to 150 and still have to train, i found a fix..

Replace incinerate with cloak,
Take from fire lure, and sacrafice and put rest into Mana shield

Dean, great to have you on the forums.

I see what your trying to do.

Howeer with that build i would be suprised if even a lvl 150 tank with maxed taunt ect could keep the aggro off you. And stepping onto lava you would die.

It is great in theory, but doesn't seem practical at all.

Mabye a middle ground ie;
points into energy shield or
half vit and half focus

But your idea of hybrid melee/caster mage would probably be the best route for end game like that.

For me I run a mid lvl clan so I like bieng an extra tank and also have high support lures.

Also you not adding to support lures could really lower your total contribution to groups.

Personally a better attempt at this might be with:
