Do you remember laying dead at the feet of Doomclaw as a group of noobs, laughing our asses off, vowing to one day be able to actually kill it without all of us being killed in the process?
If not, that’s too bad, because I do and those were really the funs times I had in this game. I also remember some of great people (Maxine, BDA, Nick, Head, Dianic, Nas, Scatha and many more) we had back then as well. Running around the map for hours on end, graciously passing drop items because we wanted to grow together as a team, sharing laughs, getting pumped up for a shot at Falgren. We went all over with no speed boost items, no chars fully geared with lux, no heavy duty armor or 1000 rez idols on our accounts. The game was giving us what we seemingly needed the most, which was nothing more than fun.
For the last several months I have allowed a handful of players actions, words and rumors dictate how I am playing this little game of ours, including lowering myself down to their level on the forums, as well as in game, slinging around insults and looking for conflict. There has been more childish behavior going around than in a 1st grade classroom, not just from myself, but from most of you as well.
There was a time not long ago, I had no second thoughts about grouping a non-clannie, passing a drop, giving and seeking out gameplay advice. I remember having conversations about things other than who is being ruthlessly killed in the Arena or is the asshat winner of the day. KSing, griefing and even just being one of those asshats in general were all bootable offenses from almost all the clans.
Fast forward to today…People I thought were friends in game have turned against me, along with other people I have never even heard of, forming jaded opinions and hurling slackjawed insults, all the while, knowing absolutely nothing about the real me. I find myself spending four out of five hours in game typing out messages about pure crap, instead of running around bossing or training and it completely sucks.
I didn’t join a clan when I first started based upon which one has the fewest number of people I do not like. I joined a clan back then because the people there were focused on just playing the game for what it is, not what they thought it should be. They grouped me as a clanless noob and said “If you like it, then you are welcome to join us, if not, that’s okay too”.
I have clan jumped a few times since my days back in Squad, not because I am actively seeking drama and chaos, but because I have been looking for what I once had…fun, nothing more, nothing less. There was a time not long ago when we could buy and sell items, even rare ones and not have 20 people asking who sold it to you, because if the clan finds out, they will be kicked out for sure. There was no need for clan deals, there were unwritten rules and we all seemingly followed them. I left Squad because of a difference of opinion, simple as that. In retrospect, it’s my own fault for not just sticking around and trying to resolve things rather than taking the easy way out and jumping ship, but I hold no grudges, the friends back then are still my friends today, we just happen to be spread around in different clans for now.
The end game: Tensions are at an all time high, I see more hatred and anger than ever before. I see a lot of emotions being driven mostly by greed, rather than just the desire to play with one universal goal in mind. There is a lot of finger pointing, looking for someone to blame, all the while in reality you should have been pointing at yourself. The real culprit in this may just be One Thumb Mobile for creating an environment where there are more mouths to feed than there is food to go around and wall hacking is all too common. In my honest opinion, had this update been here months ago, like it was supposed to, a lot of what has gone on may have never taken place to begin with. We would be busy killing new things, exploring and having some fun.
I really don’t need anyone trying to ruin my source of entertainment, don’t need your insults, don’t need your help, don’t need your selfishness, don’t need your over inflated ego, greed, arrogance or ignorance. The reality is you are no better than anyone else, you just think you are. Whether it is in this clan, another one, or none at all, I just want to go back to having fun with the friends who help make the game worth playing.
The big question is, friend or foe? If you are with me, great, welcome aboard, let’s work together to have fun again, if you are against me, keep it to yourself, I honestly don’t want to be around you anyway and there is a good chance I have already blocked you. I am not seeking conflict, however, you step on my toes, there is a really good chance I am going to step on yours and believe it or not, quickly move on.
Don’t send me a friend request just to see when I am online or where I am at, send me one to ask for help or simply to just say hi. I don’t care how much money you spend, how good your gear is or what clan you are in, my only enemies should be the 6 star bosses that rez every few hours, not the clan bosses themselves. Not everyone will get along, it’s part of life, but not everyone has to act like a complete tool just because you are one yourself.
Respect cannot and should not be demanded, no matter who you are or think you are, it has to be earned…I am willing to move forward, without regrets...see you in game…
