Aggro, Taunt, Distract, Calm, and Wild Swing Explained!

#1
There have been many people either wondering what aggro is or just saying silly things that are not true. So i have decided to teach you all what aggro really is:

Aggro is a number (a value). Each mob has a different value with this number towards each and every player. Now, the mob attacks the person with the highest aggro value. When you are "neutral" (away from mob), your aggro value to that mob is set to 0. If you are the first person to enter attacking range (eg: running up to a golem before someone else) the value is changed to 1 (this only effects the "offender", all other people around you still have 0 aggro until they attack). Attacking increases this value by a fraction of your damage dealt. Using skills on the person with the most aggro also increases your aggro.

Note: once your aggro is greater than or equal to 1, the mob will not stop attacking you until it either resets, or is killed
Note: Missed and Dodged attacks increase the aggro value by at least 1
Note: All non-self-cast skill increase aggro value by at least 1 (unless they are deflected)**
**This also applies to skill s such as distract, so if you use distract on a neutral mob it will start attacking you
Note: Once you have aggro, you can never have less than 1 aggro

Now, using these mechanics I will define some skills:

Taunt: Greatly increases your aggro value of the mob you cast it on
Warcry: Greatly increases your aggro value of mobs near a radius from the targeted mob
Distract: Greatly decreases your aggro value of the mob you cast it on
Play Dead: Makes the mob attack a different player (since you are dead) and decreases your aggro value by a bit
Calm: Greatly decreases your aggro value of all non-peaceful mobs

Now, I will help you all understand Wild Swing:

Wild Swing is different than all other AoE skills, and this is why:

1. It targets the "x" people with the most aggro (x=4 for Grimling, 5 for Askold, and 6 for Ymir)
2. Those people have to be in attack range of the boss (rangers do not get a free ride)
3. Winter Touch (a skill cast often by those bosses) sets all player's aggro to 1, allowing for people with little-to-no aggro to be hit.

I hope this small guide is helpful to you all.

While what you wrote may make sense, I am more curious how you are 100% sure of this information.

For instance, how are u certain aggro is determined by value of 1+ and above. Why cant it be be in factors of 10 or even by percentage value. Also, *Attacking increases this value by a fraction of your damage dealt.* How do you know its a fraction? do you know the exact number and if yes, how come you know?

Please explain
MorphMarfa has retired from Celtic Heroes and most probably wont be resurfacing. He had a enjoyable time during his druid adventures in Taranis.

Your right... Think he should have just used variables.

Wild swing only targets one person but is an aoe so it will seem like its targeting multiple people. To help counter everyone getting hit spread out so not everyone is gathered together in one spot.
As said, Grimling's WS hits 4 people, Askold's hits 5, and Ymir's hits 6. Being in attack/heal range is close enough to get hit.
For instance, how are u certain aggro is determined by value of 1+ and above.
Logic. Using positive integers makes subtraction and addition easier, and the point of developing is to do complex things with minimal, simple coding.
Also, *Attacking increases this value by a fraction of your damage dealt.* How do you know its a fraction? do you know the exact number and if yes, how come you know?
Think about it Morph, if a level 150 rogue is auto-attacking, and a level 100 warrior is taunting/warcrying (with maxed both), then the rogue would surely keep aggro. However, this is not the case: skills give a player more aggro than auto-attacking, and to keep up with this auto-attacking aggro must be less than the shown value. Also, to keep the aggro numbers from being too large (and potentially making the game lag) it would make sense to have a fraction of the shown attack value count as aggro.

I do not know the exact number, I am merely using logic and the scientific process to create theorums. Theorums that have not yet been proven wrong.

This is a cool way to explain it but the numbers you used are all complete speculation as to how agro is calculated on the server , but the idea behind it is very well thought out and presented in a very convincing manner as well as being easy to understand for the inexperienced players .

Your assertion on wild swing is incorrect unless I misunderstood what you wrote , wild swing is cast on the 2nd highest agro value regardless of how many people have an agro value . As far as how many people it hits , I'm not certain but I always assumed it hit however many people are in range of the person with 2nd highest agro .

Strange, I did a test where I had a full group of people attack Askold, then Grimling, then Ymir and we recorded how many people were hit.

I think you are confused about the second highest aggro part, mainly because of his Winter Touch (?) skill. My friend* and I had a discussion about this, and he said that the Winter Touch skill was cast quite often, and when it was cast Askold would usually target another player (since the tank would be frozen). Here is what we came up with for WT:
1. Resets all player aggro to 1
2. Freezes Tank (so it can attack someone else)
This may explain you idea that the person with the second highest aggro amount would be hit, because while the tank is frozen the other dps's aren't, giving them more aggro than the tank.

I'm not the slightest bit confused about it lol

I've killed him countless times , playing every different class including tank multiple times , what I stated about agro on Ymir is a fact I'm sure anyone from other clans that kill him regularly could confirm it for you :)

Like I said I am not certain 1 way or the other if wild swing has a maximum amount of people it can hit though but I am certain it will only hit people within it's range as related to the 2nd highest agro .
