Is the Idol of Illusion any good for mages? And what would be an ideal build associated with it rather than the Focus of the Seer?

It's good, but not better than the focus of the seer. The focus that the latter provides not only increases your total energy, but increases your spell damage by a significant amount. I guess the idol of illusion excells in spell evasion I believe, and energy regeneration or something, but definitely recommend focus of the seer over it.

It's the same differences between the Master's Grim and the top orb. Orb had higher regen and evasions, but grim added focus, making it the better mage option.
