Re: Ranger tips for only two stats

#12
Hey chels your talking about pvp fighting. I have no idea good pvp stats I only pvp to kill roguerampage lol. Any pvp rangers out there have a good build for 140+ pvp against another 140+?
Vitality is king in pvp. My suggestion is pumping dex and vitality. Have enough dex to avoid a good amount of defense and have good heals. And have enough vitality to take hits while your casting bolas or entangle on them. Bolas and light heal will be your dominant pvp skills. My pvp build usually runs 4-5k health 25 focus and rest the rest into dex. Hope this helps some.

Lol disregard what i mostly said in that last post. I forgot that i have a bunch of dmg gear so i dont need that much str. A good pvp build i used before i had earthstone was 250-300 str, no dex, 25 focus, and 300-350 vit. Vit is super important in pvp for rangers. With this build i had about a 85% success rate against all classes.

Hey Napol can you please tell me a good pvp build going against a rogue aprox 5-10 lvls higher? I'm a total noob at pvp
Well although I dont know your level I can give you a distribution of points system. I was at the time 0.3.0.2 as how I distributed all of my points. that said, a good more balanced build would be more like 1.2.0.2 (as long as you have 10 focus as a base and plenty of rejuv- I think 40 should be totally sufficient, maybe even less). Stop adding strength after 100 strength is reached and continue going 0.3.0.2 for the rest. Once you get about 300ish dex everyone is going to have a very hard time successfully auto attacking you (personally I just laugh and laugh when people do 8-) ). But of course it depends on how high a level you are as to how much dex you will get. :) Max light heal, steady aim, sharp shot, then (depending on how many points you have and your fighting style) max either or both defensive spikes and bolas. I personally prefer spikes as bolas barely slows down an opponent in pvp sufficient enough to get more than 1 heal and 2 autos normally. Also running around lowers dps (even though technically it also lowers your opponents). I was one time on my rogue and a mage challenged me. Turned out she was playing a 'i hit u and run away on my fast broom so you cant hit or kill me' strategy. It didnt work. Every time she ran I just healed myself and followed. Eventually I cut her off and sorta caught up. 1 auto later I won. That said, she was a mage, your a ranger. You have more benefits running around I suppose. But the principles the same. Also with so much dex your light heal will be almost uninterruptable, so yeah its awesome. :D As soon as the duel begins, Sharp Shot the rogue before turning auto on. If they are a skill spamming rogue then this will interrupt their sneaky attack, which is a very damaging skill to whoever they cast it on. Once the roge is targeted, it will not cast. The fast sharp will interrupt it, allowing you to then target nicely with an auto. If the rogue isnt a skill spammer, its still always a good idea to take a nice chunk out of your opponents health bar.

With a dex build you will probably win against all your opponents. The only class it will possibly be a close fight with will be mages that are your level, have great gear, or are higher. That said with a dex build you will kill their energy shield pretty fast with 1-4 sharps. Normally with a strength build a ranger will have a harder time with other rangers, not normally so with a dex build unless one is facing another dex built ranger.

Ive tested both dex and str builds in pvp. There isnt too much of a difference unless your bow ability isnt maxed. The attack from your ability should be sufficient enough to get through the defense from a dex built ranger. That being said, against other rangers, higher vit usually wins. In my opinion, sharp shot takes too long in pvp. 1-4 sharp shots on a energy shield to break it seems kind of a long time when good mages can nuke you in 5 seconds. Most of the fights that ive been in have lasted like 20 seconds max (the exceptions are warriors).

To be honest the 100 strength or so is fantastic ( in my opinion, but then again if I hit 140 (auto) on an eye I was extrememly happy so up to you.). I dont know your play style, but I just tank stuff and if it doesnt work out i die (aka those fearsome deepcallers :? ). I am becoming more interested in using bolas for 4-6 stars though, and a little on 3 stars.

Ummm... Unless im facing a dex built ranger (someone who has over 200 dex at the least) I dodge extremely well. I only have 1.5k health atm, working on getting 1.6k soon though. Sharp is used all the time by me to cut out animation time when I could be getting more dps, and also in other instances. good mages... what do you call a good mage? My light heal does 347 atm, my sharp does pretty much a bottom minimum of that, normally I get at least 500-600+ a sharp especially on a mage. I heal 2-4 times or so, given on how hard the mage hits me. then one of us is dead, and its extremely rarely me. 8-) One example on how dex effects how much damage I take is on a tank. They pretty much cant hit me with their auto, and have to rely on skills taking me out... which I am getting ever better at evading. And ofc I have my mostly uninterruptable light heal and my regen to help me keep my health near or at max. If there is a dex built ranger I have alot harder time. Just yesterday I was in arena and a level 122 primarily dex based ranger came and attacked me. I dont think I dodged a single attack. Eventually I died and then we chatted for a bit. Very nice to know there are more than 2 rangers who are level 100+ and who have massive amounts of dex on morrigan. :D

My favorite mob on my ranger to fight is a loredancer. I just love it when they cast their shield, I break it, and they run up to me and start trying to hit me with their wands.

Don't get me wrong, wasnt bashing dex rangers. I was just saying that dex and str builds are roughly equal in pvp. The deciding factor is vitality. From my pvp experience against other people, there is very little time to cast 1 light heal let alone 2-4. If a mage allows you to cast 2-4 light heal during a duel, theyre probably doing something wrong. Again not saying anyone is wrong here, this is all from what ive experienced. ;)

 I knew you werent bashing dex. And maybe mages in morrigan dont... I dont know. Maybe they are different from mages on other worlds... (that said there are some really awesome mages out there in morrigan- but they are SO not my level  ). ;)

The best way to win pvp a lot is to have about 350 vitality.
