If you are a ranger….. Please for the sake of your enjoyment of the game….level up Bolas. My favorite to level is now sharp shot, light heal, and Bolas. I dismissed Bolas when I made my first ranger and with my second on another world I used Bolas with the two other skills mentioned and I have to say that a little past 30 I was throwing Bolas for a Boss team and was an active part of the group.

With Bolas lower level Rangers can take on the toughest four star mobs. Sometimes you have to have patience and have nerves of steel but it is possible. Also multi-tasking skills are important, I have thrown bolas on three different mobs in a room and walked around the perimeter of a room until the all were killed. I also now use Bolas with my Level 60 Ranger and have solo'd Kiara.

I recently saw the term Kite in reference to the Bolas skill on this forum. I went looking and discovered the definition of this MMO term so I thought I’d share my research.

Kite
To lure a mob or player around much like a kite on a string while attacking it or allowing allies to attack it in some capacity. A player draws aggro and the mobility of the monster is reduced. The monster tries to follow the target but cannot catch up (thus becoming the kite on the string with the target holding the string.) This technique leaves the monster open to ranged attacks or the effects of DoT (damage over time) spells.

Whenever people tell me rangers are too weak, I tell them to use bolas and light heal... they may not hit the hardest, but with those 2 skills they are beasts.

Ok I wanted to add a little info on soloing bosses in the catacombs with Bolas. You have a boss and throw bolas what next? Well see my tips below.

It's all about energy regen so if this doesn't work you may want to get some sigils.

First never target the boss with auto attack. This will drain your energy. I throw sharp, barbed, and bolas over and over again. One you get close you can target with auto and give a full attack.

Try to avoid being hit by the boss even once OK this will take a while but avoid being hit or your energy will stop regenerating.

If you get hit look for a easy mob to kill If you get hit by the boss and stop regenerating mana go kill a mob. After killing the mob your mana will start regenerating again.

Have a friend for the mobs Self explanitory but make sure they know to leave an easy mob for you if they can.

Look for larger rooms The Avatar/Incarnation room is terrible for bolas.. Its too cramped. Much easier in Kiara's room or Duc's room

Be patient this will take a while.

Pray that Big Bone Hammers or Fireknights don't show up on the platform

Raven do u have full health and energy sigils? And used energy pots? For killing Kiara.
My bolas is lvl 9, i think i gonna use book of alternation! And make it lvl 10, because it makes much difference.
And i think i gonna buy sigils, i dont bought one,lol and i am lvl 57

I never use pots*...it don't like to buy something that will make it all too easy. Seems like I could get used to it and it could be a nasty habit I would have to got to PA - Potionhaulics anonymous Also If I used pots I could do health pots and not use bolas.

They key here to a successful bolas defeat of a boss, is energy regeneration. I think I have about $20 in platinum in energy regeneration. I think I put some in health a long time ago but a ranger can heal so effectively so it is probably not needed IMHO (the update may change this..We will see) I actually wish there was a stat that told how much energy sigils you have purchased but $20 worth seems adequate and you may get away with a little less. The key then is patience! Your immediate thought is to blast away, but If any boss hits you then your regeneration is done and it is hard to get it back. OH and make sure you throw your bolas before the previous bolas attempt runs out. I fire sharp, barbed and bolas continuously. This is not a quick kill by any means but it is a challenge! (I love challenges )

Oh and Bolas from 9 to 10 makes a difference with Bolas. Basically it is the speed that the boss walks at you. (10 is slower than 9). The slower the Boss walks the better because you can inflict more damage the slower they are walking toward you.

*Actually I have used a few that the "in-game' ADMIN gave me that was long ago. I also have a few that a player gave me but haven't used them. I have never purchased a pot though!

It just slows the boss or mobs to a very slow pace. They are going in slow motion. Meanwhile the ranger or whoever can begin ranged and dot attacks. If preformed effectively the Ranger is never touched!
