Hmm just so u know apple decides their own age rating system it has nothing to do with OTM if apple mistakenly rates am app and it turns out to be a game that needs a higher age rating then all fault is on apple. Apple just recently paid out a settlement for a law suit because of mistakenly rating an app but the developers of he app were not responsible if u truely feel the age rating in the apple store needs to be change go through apple but seeing as u already did that we will probably see the age rating changed to 13+.

I'm Christian and I say girls can wear whatever they want. I wish my character had more realistic cloths! Isn't that what OTM is going for though? A more realistic looking game? Honestly if your child can't handle the looks of the female body in this game he can't handle reality... Seriously!

Ok, I was planning a long post (in beta) anyway, so ill just respond here.

I get Papi. He and I come from entirely different reasons for our concern, but I have been increasingly worried about the sexualization of female avatars. Heck, I complained in the forum when the Samhain concept art came out. In beta, the game designers have removed even more of the female toons clothing, especially at entry levels. Nearly all basic armors have been reduced to form-fitting tube tops accentuating the breasts. As far as i can tell, male avatars are wearing the same amount of clothing. This is sexual objectification and it needs to stop.

Many people have noticed that the druid dragon armor in the splash screen looks like a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen. Sexual comments were made about in the forums. Not just a few--several. I didnt see any comments like "I wonder what kind of damage that totem does?", but all the comments about the male toons were about the weapons and how cool the armor looked. This is sexual objectification and it needs to stop.

I already know your arguments, and here are your answers:

"This game is so tame compared to other mmos."
Irrelevant. We are playing this game. We have a right to expect respectful treatment of female toons--and, by extension, female PLAYERS--in this game, and complain when we don't get it. And here's a news flash: sexual objectification is why I don't play those other games. And why I won't play this game if it continues down its current path here.

"These bodies are just virtual. It's not like you're seeing real flesh."
True, but also irrelevant. Players naturally attribute to another player the qualities of their avatar. You know this--how many times have you seen people surprised when they find out the player behind a female avatar is male? I've seen sexual harassment directed toward a female toon that only stopped when the player revealed he was male and threw back a homophobic slur. I can't tell you how many times I've been asked whether I'm shaped that way in real life. Further, virtual or cartoon cinnamon roll is still cinnamon roll, so virtual doesnt absolve anyone of responsibility.

"There are more modest fashion outfits you can choose to wear. You don't have to wear anything that makes you uncomfortable."
Two problems with this argument. First, there is no choice at game entry. You wear what the entry-level warrior, rogue, etc wears. This is my current major complaint in beta. It is those armors that are uncovering a lot more than before. And new players dont have the money or knowledge to go find more modest clothing. Second, the NPCs' clothing is chosen by game designers. And they are wearing less and less. Which means that the game designers are giving tacit approval to sexual objectification. This last point is supported by the apparent failure of OTM Support to do anything about sexual character names or players who sexually harrass other players. Doing nothing to stop it gives tacit approval.

"So what? It's just a little skin. It makes the women pretty, and I don't see how it hurts anything."
Sexual objectification leads directly to sexual harassment. Ask any female player. Or any male player with female avatar. Heck, make a new female avatar yourself and see how quickly and how often you are chatted up, propositioned to be someone's "girlfriend" or directly asked (or ordered!) to perform sexual acts. That is why it's a problem. Any game where women and girls feel they are not safe is not treating its female players with respect.

OTM is engaging in sexual objectification, and it needs to stop.

None of you understand how serious some religions are, the church of jesus christ and the latter day saints more commonly know as mormons, aren't allowed to drink, smoke, wear suggestive clothing, even making out before trying to find a suitable husband. Having dated a mormon i understand where papi is coming from.

Seeing these images goes against alot in their teachings, many of these groups have very strict social circles, and until their mature they dont allow them to socialise with the majority. Basically until theyre able to understand the boundaries they would always be watched by someone in their religious community. Papi is just standing up for what he believes in (and his wife.) these images will cause a few religious communities to avoid it. Sure the majority of the community wont see the problem and most wont understand his side of the story but just think if they were your views would you do what he has done? I personally would.

Also ive see a few women who play this game complain about the fact that they are being objectified (showing more skin than necessary, basically tube tops, revealing armours etc.) others dont give a rats but there is a minority that will complain, and the ones ive seen complain are plat buyers. OTM dont like losing some of their income.

Ill say this again, think about religious views, think about morals, think about a women's view, think from other perspectives people! I pride myself for thinking from others views over mine. Your view might be majority but it might not be morally correct, it might go against their religious views, it might offend a gender, nationality, sexuality or any sort of group of people.

Papi i support you :)

I support not sexually objectifying women, but having run this game by a couple feminist friends, they do not find the druid gear to be objectifying, the splash page just shows a bad angle. Forcing toons into revealing clothing however should be stopped

The splash page is the first impression pig, many people will simply delete it if they see something like that as a first impression. Especially for a 9 year old child.
