The leg metaphor is good but there is the problem of a innocent being killed going back into leg, doctor tells you leg is infected we are going to amputate they cut of the wrong leg not the infected one the healthy one now that leg isn't going to grow back its Gone forever.

So you would rather let a criminal leech more tax money, prison space for killing, in most cases innocent people? It just doesn't make sense. We are wasting valuable resources in trying to find whatever the criminal was mental or what not while he just did it for the money.

Its the ultimate punishment for the ultimate crime which is murder, not only can the convict not commit murder again, but the victims family receives justice. It's also true that the number of murders decrease when execution numbers rise.

I say make them work. Make them earn their stay at a prison but don't kill them.

They are still human and we can't use them as tools to stop other people.
Is trying to figure out if someone is ill, to find a reason, a waste of money ? I don't think. Humans life, even criminal's, is worth more than money. If we think that money is more important than life; then we ALMOST think like the ones who killed for money.

The way you put it makes me wonder if you have a heart at all. You speak of criminals as if they are not human beings.

Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.
And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.
You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven.

Yeah...I saw that webpage too: "what does the bible say about forgiving murder?" Anyways...

Okay, so criminals are human beings; sounds like a fact to me...no one can prove that wrong. However, this makes me wonder...what is the purpose of prisons?

Is it just isolation to protect the general public from the murderers(by the way, all murderers are criminals, but all criminals are not murderers) ?

Is it to somehow prove to the criminals that there is a more "right" way of living?

Is it to tire them so that they eventually lose the spirit to commit more crimes?

Will post more depending on the answers.

Well thats just my opinion. We can pamper criminals all we want, but in the end of the day, they are criminals.

What gives someone the right to commit a murder and not pay a fee?
I say an eye for an eye, lets not forget it's more than just the victim that gets hurt. Its more like 4 or 5 lives you destroy.

This is probably the most controversial issue in modern and oldern day society.
